Description
DOWNLOAD FOR FULL VIEWI'd give anything, really, to go back in time to the 90's when Hanna Barbera were allowing newer and younger talents direct one-shots or revisit older characters to make their start in the animation industry - names like Butch Hartman and Seth MacFarlene were probably much better with the shorts they had at this period.
If I were given the freedom and creativity then to do what I wanted, I'd love to see this short made - featuring two different series both set in the Ozarks. "Pumkin Puss and Mushmouse" started this trend with The Magilla Gorilla Show from 1964 followed by "The Hillbilly Bears" a year later with The Atom Ant/Secret Squirrel Show/. Watching them individually sparked off this idea for a crossover with this story in mind:
While chasing Mushmouse across the hills, Pumkin Puss accidentally wanders onto the Rugg's territory. Pa does his best to get rid of the "interferin' puss cat" while Pumkin Puss tries to get his mouse back. Meanwhile, Mushmouse takes refuge in the bear's shack and Ma has her own problem of getting him out...not knowing that Pa is actually chasing away the solution!
...heh, and I'll bet not many of you might remember watching these two shows at all

Speakin' of Punkin Puss (It's spelled Punkin, Not Pumkin.), I really think he should have a crush on Daisy Mayhem of Laff-a-Lympics but the feeling's not mutual!
And I just want to comment this: If Hanna Barbera characters were Transformers, then the Hillbilly Bears would be the Dinobots of HB! I totally see Paw Rugg as Grimlock & Maw Rugg (Who's my favorite of the Ruggs!) as Slag!

What's wrong with Mushmouse? Is Ma stereotypically afraid of meece? Or is he eating all their vittles or something?

Paw: *incoherent mumbling*
Punkin' Puss: What is you rattlin' on about?
*more incoherent mumbling*

Thanks. Always glad to meet another HB Fan. I think someone on YT posted the entire series of the Hillbilly Bears somewhere, along with a few other forgotten gems. Crossovers by different shows of the same company (ala: HB themselves) are epsicially fun with in-jokes included

Cheers. If they're still there, you could try and check them out on YT. What they lack in quality animation they make up for with great scripting

I shaawww' nuff do remember these guuuys! Although I only have one Hillbilly bears episode I got the PP & MMs on my Magilla Gorilla boxset - this would've indeed worked well! Yogi & Boo Boo and Yakky Doodle did appear in a couple of Snagglepuss cartoons though, but mainly characters just mentioned other characters.

Yeah, I always liked it when HB characters made mentions of others. Shows they share the same universe, in a way.
And if you want more Hillbilly Bears, someone posted the entire series on YT, and I loved it! Funniest thing next to Dastardly and Muttley

as a matter of fact i do, and just as the mystery shows sometimes crossed over when plausible, so should the animal shows that were similar. didn't it seem obvious that Wally Gator should have met MAgilla Gorilla, or that Ricochet Rabbit and Quick Draw McGraw both go after the same outlaw? How about Huck Hound, Pixie, Dixie Mr. Jinks and Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy living in the same neighborhood? For that matter, Hokey Wolf, Loppy De Loop and Yakky Doodle, should have crossed paths in the forest. I won't even mention the obvious crossover that should have involved Peter Potamus, Yippee, Yappee, Tahooey and Touche Turtle. so, no, you have a great idea and i wish it had come through!

Thanks very much. I knew you'd remember it; it's the "younger generation" all hyped up on fart jokes and pop culture references
With the vast amount of HB characters created, there's no end of possibilities for crossovers
