Description I drew a cecaelia!
You can decide on it's gender...
Octopi lay eggs, so no belly button.
Also they don't nurse young so... yeah..
Only six lower tentacles cause I'm counting the arms as 7 and 8... Actually, Octopodes don't have tentacles, they are correctly refered to as arms. So it has eight arms. End of story.

Second attempt at an eel. Far better than the one I drew on my sisters arm a few weeks back.

LOvely shading. The flow of the body and tentacles is perfectly alligned, and I especially like the webbing beneath the arm as well.

Perfect perspective on the eel there ^^ You seem to be very creative with all these creatures. I could never come up with these You should watch some Adam Philips' movies. Also an example of creativity+creatures ^^ plus they are fun and cute

Thank you!
cecaelia's are actually fairly popular.. I just made it a little more octopus like than is normal for a cecaelia.. Cause I just couldn't bring myself to do pretty girl/boy with tentacles..
I'll have to look into Adam Philips though. Sounds interesting.

I too have drawn a cecaelia but had no idea that there was a real name for that sort of creature until I ran across your image. So not only is your drawing cool but educational as well

Thankies. I'm glad I was somewhat educational!

haha you really analyzed the octopus xD THat made me think of like... mermaids, you know.. they have belly buttons.. but they ARE half fish half human, so.. HMM.
anyway nice job on the arms and suction cup things, the shading on this is really nice... Profile came out good as well, I'd say you could move that eye sliiiightly back further to our left, it likes too far forward in my opinion

R-Newman In reply to pichu4850 [2008-07-15 23:41:41 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... I was thinking mermaids also should be hairless without bellybuttons and stuff, but that's taking it a bit far... right? cecaelia are creepy anyway, so making them more octopus like than human is easier... Lol... Octopodes don't have bones and you have no idea how hard it was to restrain myself... I almost made it all... boneless >.> Er...
Yeah... I think the eye is too far forward.. I tend to do that...

Lol... Yeah.. I hadn;t intended for it to be creepy... In the begining it was just gonna have flowy hair and a normal shaped head like a mermaid and was gonna have normal arms and gonna have a belly button and shell bra like a normal mermaid but the more I worked I was all like Octopuses lay eggs... no belly button... Octopi don't have hair... Her head should be shaped like an octopus... Why would a cecaelia have a bra... what is the point of these anyway... and it evolved... *cringes* sorry...

I'm not insulting it or anything. Just the thought of it in real life is a strange. In other words, it's creepy in a cool creepy way.
