Description
So tempted to put this in the main gallery what with how long it's taken (was supposed to be a little project when I needed a break from doing the Germans Meme almostdonenow), but so much text means it's going here.I've had a surprising number of people ask if they can roleplay this guy (and Kievan Rus') over the past few months, so hopefully this should help with the details. Any questions, do feel free to ask!
I was going to do some notes on Varangian Rus' (aka - Scandia during the viking age) and Kievan Rus', but I this was huge enough already, so I may do a smaller Part 2.
And now, some history notes (aka: info I would have included in his character portrait if I hadn't wanted to at least try to keep it short):
Germania - Obviously the tribes that went on to make up Germania migrated from the Scandinavian region late in the BC time-line. The ones which moved actually came from the Southern most areas, so that would make Scandia originally the Northern part before this shift. Scandinavia can technically count as Germanic too for this reason, but there's a Swedish translator named Viktor Rydberg who's promoted using "Teutonic" instead as an all-encompassing term for both Germans and Scandinavians (I'm not sure if I like this, as I associate the Teutonic title with a singular Germanic tribe, "Teutons", and of course, the Teutonic Order).
The migration was caused by climate change and need for more resources/land due to a growing population.
Germanic tribes formed alliances and started wars with each other all the time, so their relationship works like that too.
Children- I still find it strange how a lot of fans go with the Nords being ancients themselves, but I still see that as saying if the Swedes were always Sweden, or the Danes as Denmark, then Germany existed as Germania, or as the Alamanni tribe (seeing as Germany is "Allemagne" in French, "Alemania" in Spanish, etc). I'm still having an internal debate over when exactly they appeared, but seeing as we still don't know when exactly Italy came into being (bearing in mind he was around when Rome was apparently), I'll be leaving this for now.
Sweden was the only one of his children to catch him crying. They never spoke about it since, but they did grow closer from it.
Finland has strange heritage. In this case, I have gone with him not knowing his ancestor and having Scandia adopt him (seeing as he counts as Fenno-Scandinavia - using some regional details instead of people based).
Iceland wasn't settled/discovered until the 800s... according to runic sources. However, these sources have proven continuously to suck at getting dates right. Apparently some recent carbon dating has shown it could have been settled as early as the 600s.
I am including the Jutes and Angles as OCs seeing as they're play a part in my English History head-canon.
Romance- Like I said in his character portrait , Scandinavians were hardly mentioned in Roman sources, despite the fact they had a lot of Roman stuff. Scandia probably joined his brother in raids a few times, but there were tribes mentioned as being involved in fur trade and the like. Archeological findings have shown they were taller than the Germans (even if Hidekaz does seem to have Rome and Germania about the same heights). Rome thought Scandinavia was an island.
He's so tearful over winter because apparently winter depression was first mentioned in sources relating to the tribes inhabiting Scandinavia. Hence he cries a lot that time of year.
I'm too sleepy to add any more, so if you want it, ask away~

But Denmark isn't geographically Scandinavian. Only Sweden and Norway are on the peninsula (some even view those two as the true Scandinavians).
Danes consider themselves Scandinavian because their language, culture, history and ethnicity is Scandinavian (Denmark is Scandinavian for the same reason why Iceland is Scandinavian).
Norway and Sweden are the original Scandinavians.
Denmark and Iceland are Scandinavians too because they share the same culture, ethnicity, history and language.
Although I must say that I envy Iceland for having the most pure Scandinavian language than my own country (which is Norway).

Are you going to make one of these for the each of the other ancients that you've done already to?

Probably not. I really did this one as he's the character I have the most people asking permission / pointers to play (plus I felt the need to clear up some of his characteristics).
Was there any character in particular you were thinking of?

well a had wanted to know a little more about Gaul and aestii in particular but it would still have been cool to read ones on all of them, the character sheet had made Scandinavia so much more fascinating because it gave so much more insight into him so i had hoped to get that same kind of insight into the others to.

Heh, I guess Scandinavia is my 'main' OC in that respect I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it, though. There isn't really much material on the Aestii, but Gaul might be fun to do at some point.

Oh man, I really wouldn't trust Hetalia too much, it has a lot of inaccuracies going on. I guess school books can be kind of formulaic and rigid, but there are some really great historical writers out there.

This is all very brilliant! I really enjoy finding such rich springs of Scandinavia/Nordic love! The effort you've put into the character and history are incredibly impressive, with any of the characters you create. Silly as it sounds, I would very much like to ask your permission to use Scandinavia and Kievan Rus for upcoming cosplays, and a friend of mine would like your permission to use Aestii for one of their upcoming cosplays. We would both be honored if you gave us permission!

Wow, great character sheet! I have to say, I think Scandia is my new favourite ancient character! But may I add one thing? Finland's ancient people came from Siberian tribes, who were called the Finns and were hunter-gatherers. They moves west to modern-day Finland and divided into many tribes who fought with each other. I hope that helps!

Oh, and did you know that the Vikings apparently were scared of the Finnic tribes? Crazy, I know, but the Finns practiced magic and the Vikings blamed them for causing storms and weather problems, because the Finns were known to posses ability to control the weather and could make curses! Hope that helps too!

When will learn about Gilbert being baltic *wants to see Asetii with a young Gilbert*
Giklbert: Wait a minute! *Slams open door*
Me: Hello Gilbert...
Gilbert: There is no way that the awsome me is related to this... I don't know how to describe! *pointing at a picture of Vista* That is not awsome at all.
Me: Gilbert you have to reconizge that you are half-baltic and half-germanic... he is half-germanic, right R-ninja?
Francis: Please ask her not to include my mother *in my head cannon, the reason why Francis acts the way he does is because of his mother, who I don't know if she has a name yet. I would guess her last name is Bonnefry*
Antonio: Why hasn't senorita R-ninja made anything about my ancestor yet?
Francis and Gilbert: ANTONIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can never go overboard with details...! Though in Hetalia it's nice to strike a balance with history and characterisation (which is why I dumped all my history notes here rather than with his main portrait)
