Description This is less intended as a tutorial and more as a visual aid to the Beretta M9 tutorial - I hope it's not too difficult to follow, it's only the second one I've pieced together and I can see room for lots of work!
If you are versed in Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator using bezier tools, you will find Corel Painter X ridiculously easy! The tough part is finding where they hid all the goodies!
Hopefully this helps you stumble thru it a little less than I did - and yes, I read the instructions... Corel Draw 12 had great tutorials on vector art, but Painter was woefully deficient and lacked real organization compared to Draw!

This is really intended to help boost someone who is already reasonably proficient in Corel or Adobe but trying out Painter X & really needs to be viewed after reading thru the Beretta M9 Tutorial - sorry if you're new to this medium.
If you are new to digital painting, I suggest you get familiar with the basics first - work thru the host tutorials.

Also, it really helps to have a drawing pad like Wacom, Intuos (I use the 9x12 tablet with tilt & pressure functions, for example), or if you really are committed: the Cintiq 21 ux!!!

Shown are a few ways to lay out your line work - using Liquid Ink (I really like it because I can keep all the line art on one layer - but it lacks versatility found in shape based lines. It also lets me come and "fix" lines freehand in Liquid Ink) and bezier tools to create vector type line art.
If you use the vector method, it is easy to take a closed shape and convert it to a selection or back to a shape and to change the line weight or color...

You can also create a vector path and then paint over it with Liquid Ink. This is useful for a few reasons: It allows you to have more control over the line color and variable width. It also allows you to work on a Liquid Ink layer completely separate from all other color or lines. I used three Liquid Ink layers in the Beretta.
Drop me a note if you need some pointers - just be aware that my wifey converted me to Mac's about a year ago - so that's what I'm working in
