Clean Slate is a 56 year old unicorn stallion, who is a Mine Operations Manager for one of many gold mines run by the Royal Equestrian Mining Corporation, a major and valued supplier to the Equestrian Royal Mint. He pulls double duty as a Safety Officer as well when necessary- a task that he takes to with gusto.

He is a very hardworking, and clean living unicorn, and as his magic is relatively weak, he normally works in the manner of an Earth Pony. He always wears his HiViz jacket while working, and is almost never seen without his tool kit and first aid kit that comprise his saddlebags.

He is meticulous but quick thinking in a crisis, and this has earned him the respect of his miners. During a cave in that happened on a new level that was being excavated, Clean managed to get all his workers out of the mine unscathed, getting trapped in the mine himself in the process- eventually digging his own escape tunnel with the still functional drilling equipment left behind by the escaping miners.

Princess Celestia herself awarded him a medal known as the "Order of Valour" and publicly cited him as a role model and someone to look up to. He never accepted the notion of being a hero, and has always maintained that he is just a regular guy, and that anypony could have done what he did on that fateful day.

Clean was also one of many ponies who experienced the Changeling Invasion, first-hoof. Unlike the majority, he was never captured by the invaders and joined a mixed group of Royal Guards and civilians who were fighting the changelings in running skirmishes through Canterlot's streets.

He is known to have fought with anything he could get his hooves on, most notably a pair of magically-wielded steel toolboxes, and a fire extinguisher, a pickaxe, a shovel, and a magitech rock drill. At the climax of the battle, he was fighting back-to-back with a unicorn mare named Lemonberry, engaged in brutal and merciless hoof-to-hoof combat with the chitinous horde. Thankfully, the Changelings were then promptly ejected from Canterlot by the massive magical shockwave.

After he had healed from his many injuries, he was decorated again, this time by Princess Luna. He had earned the Equestrian Medal of Freedom- the highest award a non-military pony can achieve. Clean actually fainted when Princess Luna bowed to him as a deep mark of respect. He has never really gotten over this rare display from the Princess of the Night.

In his personal life, he is a happy stallion. His life partner is a Earth Pony Royal Guard by the name of Anthracite, who was once famously noted by a furiously Princess Cadance as "a REAL hunk" before she started dating Shining Armour.

Clean and Anthracite are openly gay, and couldn't care less what anypony thinks of them. Sixteen years ago, they adopted a pegasus filly named Vitesse. Now 26 years old, who loves both of them just as much as her long-lost biological parents.
