Description
The second one in a series of Power Rangers 1st Season redesigns, which is based on an idea I had for a more serious Power Rangers series/movie (heavily influenced by Guyver, Evangelion, Garo and Kamen Rider the First).
The initial sketch, at least, as the linepaper undoubtedly shows.

This time it's our favorite Ranger: Tommy! Though not as you remember him, obviously. Also, this profile reveals one of the plot twists I thought up.

Name: Thomas 'Tommy Gun' Oliver
Age: 19
Rank: Nemesis
Height: 1.80m
Height of suit: 2.50m
Zord height: 9m
Limitations of suit: Weak powersource that only lasts 1 hour, and 15 minutes when in Zord mode. Also, Tommy has to return to Rytae's base in order to remove the suit, unlike the Rangers who can summon their armors/mutate at will.

Meet the Tommy Gun, a martial arts fighter who is called that way for his fast and rapid punches. He is the complete opposite of Jason, in that he's as unpopular as you can get, and that he stands up for the weak. This has lead to Tommy and Jason being enemies, regurarly starting a fight on the college grounds.

This is one of the reasons that Jason has no problems fighting with the 'Green Ranger'. At first he was hesitant because he thought that Rytae had kidnapped an innocent person to function as the Green Ranger's bio-engine, but when he found out that Tommy had voluntarily joined Rytae's side, he realized his chance to satisfy the bloodlust he felt.

The Black and Yellow Rangers joined their leader in his mission to destroy the Green Ranger (out of a programmed urge to destroy everything that Rytea sends at them), but only Billy and Kimberly, the Blue and Crimson Rangers, wondered WHY such a generally nice guy as Tommy would voluntarily join Rytae. When the others weren't around, they sought him out, and recognizing their good intentions, he decided to tell them the horrible truth.

He revealed that Rytae wasn't evil and that she wanted Zordon dead for one, simple reason: He was the one that caused a horrible plague swiping across the galaxy. A sentient, technorganic plague that effected entire planets, and transformed the inhabitants into monsters that obeyed a strict hivemind.

Zordon was the Lord of "Plague Z", the center of it's hivemind...Until Rytae, along with a few others, managed to penetrate Zordon's Asteroid Fortress, and cut off Zordon's head. However, this didn't kill Zordon's body, which had the powerfull hivemind brain of the Plague in it's chest. The body proceeded to wipe out her fellow warriors, and she barely managed to escape with the head alive.

Rytae thought that it would be wise to hook the head up to a computer so that they could use the information in it's head, but she didn't expect it to resurrect Zordon in a new shape. Zordon hacked an Alpha assistant droid, programmed it to be sentient but obedient, and together with it's help he managed to escape on an experimental starcruiser. With Rytae's only hope on defeating the Plague gone, hers and other races only option was to flee, constantly staying ahead of the plague.

Eventually Rytea got tired of running, and decided to hunt down the renegade head, to take it back to try and find something that will stop the Plague. After 200 years, she managed to find Zordon's ship, but was shocked to see that he had used the Power Suit technology, which spawned the Plague, had been forced upon five of the planet's young inhabitants.

After constantly seeing her allies slaughtered by these Rangers, she had no choice but to seek out someone that knew the Red Ranger's weaknesses and could match his strength. So Rytae found Thomas, who after some persuasion, decided to help her, thinking the Rangers were brainwashed into creatures of evil. He was given the Exo-Bio Suit, a prototype armor that was based on the same principle as the Power Bio Suit, but which didn't mutate the wearer, instead relying on the suits' healing abilities, speed and strength.

Shocked by all of this, the Blue and Crimson Rangers began to fight against their programming, until they finally joined Tommy as he went back to Rytae. Rytae removed the reprogramming, but she couldn't get rid of the augmentations. Instead they decided to help Tommy to fight against their former friends, which eventually leads to a romantic relationship between Tommy and Kimberly, and to Zordon upgrading his Rangers with even more powerfull suits.

And so the Battle of the Rangers continued...Until the Plague reached Earth, and they had no option left but to join forces once more, to stop the Plague Invasion and their master, the body of Zordon: the renamed Lord Zedd.
