Description These were once found all over Montreal Island, they'd flash generally when there was going to be snow removal. Failure to respect it could end in getting your car towed.

In the 90's these were mostly decommissioned, because of the raw deal that Montreal got with Hydro-Quebec (our power company) related to powering these lights, which were only used part of the time. HOWEVER, Westmount, an independent city, which also happens to have its own power company (there are a handful of municipal power companies in Quebec, they generally buy their power from Hydro-Quebec), bucked the trend. Also, at this time of year they wouldn't be flashing, because they're for snow remival. But because they were closing off a lane (either for roadwork or for pedestrianisation purposes), the lights in this section were flashing. The sign is just a warning to not park when that light is flashing. WillM3luvTrains and ArtRock15 and 2The-17th-Man I thought you may find this interesting. The other sign is just to inform that it's a paid parking zone. In Westmount, you go to a machine, and enter your license plate number and pay there, by either cash or credit card. There's also a phone-based app. That's what parking enforcement agents check, and you'll get a standard Island of Montreal style ticket if you haven't paid (in Montreal, it's done differently, you memorize the number of the parking spot, and you enter it into a parking terminal and pay there)

Green Avenue, Westmount, Quebec, Canada, May 28th

When I went to Quebec City in 2017 I used to see a lot of these along the driveways, unfortunately I didn’t get to see any of them light up.
