McDougall Road, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Here we are at an oddity. Most of its length, Cote-des-Neiges road is a 2-way street. However, there's a stretch where the two sides have a significant division between them. And then, it's so much, the southbound* part has a new name for a short stretch, McDougall Road. The first block is typical, but then, after crossing The Boulevard/Le Boulevard (and yes, that's the name of the street), it briefly becomes this sidewalk-less road with no exits. Eons ago, there wasn't even a road here, it was streetcar tracks, but when, in the late 50s, we decided Montreal didn't need streetcars, this was paved. There's a no pedestrian sign, telling people NOT to walk along here. There's a sign that just says "end of the sidewalk" in French. Also, if you look further, you can vaguely make out a sign with a camera on it. That's a photo radar warning. The thing is, because of the lack of sidewalks or driveways for this one-block stretch (where two huge building complexes, and a couple of smaller houses, lie in an "island" between Cote-des-Neiges and McDougall), many motorists take to treating this as a short stretch of highway, despite the fact that a) it isn't, and b) it's both on a hill and it curves to the left. So this should discourage it (fun fact: you do NOT get demerit points for being nailed by a speed camera or a red-light camera in Quebec, but you still get a ticket mailed to you). *"City south", NOT the same thing as geographic south. Bear in mind even where the streets do conform to a grid, it is NOT perfectly aligned with the compass.
