Description
Tremble as I try to do something to top Killer Glasses and fail miserbly. This one has been on the production line for quite sometime, it was just a matter of getting it drawn. It's not that great...
To be honest I think the film should have ended with the last thirty seconds being cut. I mean, they killed Wesker, they found a ship full of survivors, the black guy was alive and maybe he could have shagged Alice and she could have a personality for a change. But no... they just had to have a cliffhanger ending... *sigh*
Actually I also think the film should have ended with Wesker finding the destruct device and swearing, just having him open his mouth and the fans can decide what word he was going to say before the helicopter blew up.
What was he doing, he was just staring at it? Was he trying to use force powers to stop the device from exploding? And you're expecting me to believe after staring at the bomb he had enough time to rush off, grab a parachute and jump out of the blast radius?
Yeah, I'm using everyone's 'original' costumes, they're instantly more recognisable than the film costumess... too much GREY!
I will be following this up with another comic soon, about another thing from the film that bothered me.
The title is of course named after the great people at HowitShouldHave Ended.com
Resident Evil belongs to Capcom, the films belong to Paul Anderson, though I ish they didn't

oh but didn't you see his parachute deploying in the shot where you find out that the black guy is still alive? I only saw it the 2nd time I saw the movie. So he lives on mwahaha! What I was most upset about was the fact that they made Wesker a combination of Saddler from RE4 and plagas... -_- But yeah Jill's entrance makes absolutely 0 sense lol.... I like Wesker's face in the panel where he is climbing on the ship.

Thanks, I had a lot of fun drawing Wesker in that shot.
I missed the parachute the first time round. I think my brain was slowly crumblingby that point, but Jill's entrance was the final gunshot to the head.
Don't get me started on Wesker being part Uroboros in that film...

ugghhh, i know right? it made no effing sense whatsoever. they should have just said eff this piece o' crap and had the only lines in the whole film be-
Chris-"I hate you for some unknown reason incredibly sexy blonde man I don't know."
Wesker-"As do I insignificant peon of an individual that I really don't have any quarrel with nor have met in this story arc until this very moment..."
Chris-"let's fight..."
Wesker- "Lets..."
then for the next 2 hours they makeout... I mean fight... makes about as much sense as the original did in my opinion -_-

I like this version. At least Wesker gets more screentime and Alice hardly appears at all. I'd include a Wesker kidnaps Claire subplot and then I think it's perfect

I wish Capcom would have picked George A. Romero to direct and write the Resi Evil films... since he wanted to do so before Campcom signed Paul "I fuck up awesome games and their characters when I make them in to films" Anderson, Romero had written the story for it too and it was very similar to the game story line which I lied, but nooooooo Capcom had to hire someone awful... might as well of asked Stephanie "I can't write for shit" Myer to do it!
I love this comic though, poor Albert, I can imagine him saying "Oh Bollocks" in that sexy voice of his and it makes me melt... cos I'm obsessed with him so it happens

I'm quite a fan of the George A. Romero screenplay. I put a couple of homages to it in my fanfic. In fact I think Wesker's bomb in this comic was inspired by that.
If you made a few minor changes to his screenplay it would be perfect. Romero's script was rejected for being 'too violent', so it would seem complete B-movie director Paul took over at some point.
I'm glad this comic is succeeding in some marginal way to bring RE fans together out of mutual hatred for the films.
The film so should've ended with Wesker saying 'Oh bollocks' since it's more of a British swearword its easier to get away with saying it on an American production (that's the excuse Star Trek used)

They didn't have the balls to kill off Wesker, though, they still left room for him to come back, as the parachute can be seen after the plane exploded.
Not that Wesker was a real villain in the movies anyway. He didn't do anything. The movies are just so badly written...

I don't know how likely it's they'll be continuing this film series, but they will surely be re-booting the film franchise, as RE is just too well known to miss the marketing opportunity.

Rebooting it with a completely new timeline and director would be the best thing to do. Who keeps giing Paul Anderson money I just don't know.
My opinion is that Joss Whedon should direct the RE films. In an alternate universe where he grew up a RE fan there is a golden age of RE films, he'd write strong characters, good stories. There's a lot of stuff in his x-men comics with self mocking dialogue that reminds of you of the cliches of the series but also why you love it so much.

My journal entry when I went to see Afterlife, since it has some of my thoughts on what kinds of movies RE franchise could spawn.

Whedon would be an interesting choice, and while I'm not sure if he would be the best fit for a Resident Evil-film, at least he is good at what he does.
"Who keeps giing Paul Anderson money I just don't know."
The movies make money. As long as that happens, quality doesn't matter.

I've read your journal.
Of course I say Whedon whilst completely admitting its impossible, that's why I say alt univ.
The new Star Trek film tried to appeal to fans as much as non-fans and did really well because of it. It is possible to appeal to both sides.
But when it comes to zombies there's only really been a selective audience. You'll probably only watch a zombie film if you like zombies, so maybe appealing to the fanbase would be a good idea.
George A Romero wrote a RE screenplay which was rejected for being 'too violent'. It almost exactly follows the plot of the first game. You can read on the internet movie script database. It's interesting to think what it might have been if that film had been made.

"The new Star Trek film tried to appeal to fans as much as non-fans and did really well because of it. It is possible to appeal to both sides."
Yes, but it can't be made solely for the fans, for example a parody of RE would be something like that, or something like the CGI RE movies, which assume you are familiar with the characters and the universe.
The RE-movies attempt to appeal to fans by throwing familiar imagery and names in, but without the context and characterization, that's just dumb.
And they aren't good movies even if you don't know anything about the game-series.
"You'll probably only watch a zombie film if you like zombies, so maybe appealing to the fanbase would be a good idea."
The RE-movies we have were marketed as action-movies. And the Afterlife even more so, with the 3D gimmick.
I'm not really overly familiar with the target audiences in different countries, revenues and all that what makes movie executives decide who they'll give the money, so I don't know if trying to sell RE-based movie as mainly as a zombie-flick would be the course of action they'd see as the most lucrative.
"George A Romero wrote a RE screenplay which was rejected for being 'too violent'. It almost exactly follows the plot of the first game. "
I heard Chris was a farmer in it. In any case, I guess just trying to make it a very basic zombie-movie, which is what the first RE-game very much was, would be true to the original idea of the game-series.

Yes, I did show a friend Degen and had to explain what as going on a lot, but she still really enjoyed it. But you can still have nods and references to the original games, but yes, out of context it is just stupidity.

Indeed, Chris isn't a part of STARS, and I have a feeling if that film had been made Wesker wouldn't have come back in CV. He's not portrayed in exactly in the way we know him now and he swears more than the rest of the cast assembled. And his death in the film is pretty final.
The film feels kinda like Aliens but with zombies, I think on screen RE should have a bit more action (as we got in Degen), in a film we all wanna see our favourite characters kick-ass

It's just I think that if that film had been made then That would have been the public perception of him. Occasionally he has this glimpse of the cool incontrol badass we all know and love, but other times he's just not. He carries RE1 Wesker's trait of making up threats which later turn out to be completely foundless, so I'm just not sure.

Lieju In reply to Raax-theIceWarrior [2010-11-27 12:32:31 +0000 UTC]
RE1's Wesker's plan really didn't make much sense. A lot of it had to do with the legendarily bad voice acting and dialogue. I mean, the scene where he explains his mater plan to Jill...
But going back to Wesker in the Afterlife, he really has no plan, does he? All of the civilisation has pretty much just fallen, Umbrella should be taking advantage of the situation, and trying to take over the world. Instead, they're still doing the same thing they did before the zombie-apocalypse.
Wesker apparently only cares about taking over the T-virus in his body, he has no bigger plan, really even when it comes to his own mutation.

Raax-theIceWarrior In reply to Lieju [2010-11-27 14:55:38 +0000 UTC]
Yeh, I was bitterly disapointed when his 'plan' was simply I want to eat you, and of course Alice being the bint she is, doesn't realise that's its crap.
Umbrella should have had some plan. But I don't see why Umbrella were capturing all those survivors and experimenting on them.

They used them to figure out a way for Wesker to control the virus. That's really the only explanation offered.
They should have tried to find a way to control the zombies, and find an antidote/vaccine.
They did some research on controlling people with the spider-thingies taken from RE5, but no-one from Umbrella ever explains what their big plan is.
