At the time the strip was done, Nick was re-running the series and it was really the only place to see it.
So the joke was that Buster & Babs only source of income was a little money from Nick and whatever they were getting paid as "The Bunny Sisters."
But no, they did not create the series.

The ones that I know of, Plucky works as a target in a shooting gallery ("It's a living, most nights") Hampton is a tester for buffet restaurants defining the term 'all you can eat'.Furrball works asa model for the 'Cute Kitten Calendar Company' he had a lot of plastic surgery after the show went off the air. Calamity of course, works for BP Oil Co.

Actually I can't see him escaping Pepe in Catwomans skintight bodysuit, corset and especially those heels.

True, but toon physics allow boy toons dressed like girls to be able to run in high heels if the threat is bad enough.
Pepe LePew in a romantic mood chasing him is a bad enough threat that Buster could do a 3 minute mile even wearing 5 inch spike heels.
