Description
The island of Formosa, located not far from the mainland of China, was occupied by the Japanese in the 19th century. In 1867, Japanese forces withdrew and the British invaded Formosa. They established a few naval bases and ended up making Formosa into a British colony. The history of British Formosa is one that is dark and perilous but nonetheless very interesting in it’s scape within the locale of the former British Empire. There are many traditions of the Formosans that intermixed with the culture of the British. Hence, their culture is unique.
