-----"look mommy! i made a tree!"
-----
song: kids - mgmt
good evening everyone!
it has been a while since i have posted anything, but i finally kept my thirtieth promise and posted this very late christmas painting. i would have finished something related to spring but i just imagined this piece next to my 'wicked' one.
firstly, let me tell the story that sort of came with the doodle.
it depicts a boy, who ventured to the fireplace after playing in the snow (hence the snow and not the dandruff). his cheeks, nose and ears were red from the cold but he did not mind. in fact, he loved winter. as he was looking around for his toys, he noticed the tree. the christmas tree.
"mommy, mommy! in class today, the teacher said paper came from trees! is that true?" the mother nodded. the boy pondered and pouted.
"but there is so much paper in the world. they are all trees?" the mother nodded but explained to the young child that people recycle paper, which gets made into other products, including brand new paper.
"but what about the trees?" the boy asked again. then, he had a marvelous idea. the mother sat quietly by the fire, knitting, monitoring the boy. kids scissors or not, they were still scissors.
the boy looked up a short time later, a huge grin plastered on his face, and yelled "mommy! look!" he held up a paper tree. "look! i made a tree from paper again! it is small, but it should be. it is a baby tree!" the mother smiled and patted his head, and placed the 'baby' tree under the christmas tree.
blame all the environmental courses i took last semester.
the story is rather random with a lot of holes, but i am not a writer. hopefully, it makes sense a little bit. maybe this child will grow up to be an environmentalist or something.
i decided not to go crazy with the saturation, even though it looks more bright and 'fireplace' like. using gimp, i changed the color a bit and the saturation, as well as erased the greyish background of the watercolor paper.
the challenge, which i recently just thought of, was painting something or someone during the afternoon, near a fireplace. i learned that the skin becomes really brownish beige, with a new spots of yellow on the side of the face closest to the fire.
overall, i like how it turned out. i would have liked to go darker on the skin, but i just felt like it would have been a bit too much. maybe not. i think the sweater was the most exciting part for me to do. it was quite fun and easy to paint.
i decided to do the fireplace in a scale of shades and tones, unlike my 'wicked' piece. i might just adopt this method to all my pieces to come. it is not just one solid color, but a blend.
the problems, other than the lighting of the skin, were in the eyes and signature. the eyes are bigger than they are supposed to be. i guess it fits with the child-like character. truthfully, i still have not figured out if my adult characters will look slightly different than my kid characters. besides, i messed up while outlining, so one eye was above the other and i had to fix that. the signature is usually more slanted too but i was tired and my hand decided "slanted? not today!"
it was a fun piece to do. i am glad it is finished. the snow was an idea that popped into my head when i was coloring and i am glad that it looks nice.
well. i hope you like this painting. i would love some feedback and comments. c:
thank you and have a great day!
