Description
-----"i cannot go and play in the snow
because those white icy flakes are h2o
i mustn't, for reasons, go outside
so in the darkest corners i shall hide
observing the others have great fun
i sit here quietly and wait for the sun."

hello everyone! i am very pleased to present my first official deviantart drawing.
before i go on to talk about this piece, i must apologize to some of you. i was doing various tests to see which painting looked the best, posting the original scan as well computer enhanced ones. i was overwhelmed by the "favorites" that appeared in my inbox. i believe there were six? anyway, i apologize for the inconvenience, thank you for brightening up my day. c:
as you can see, i included a poem to capture my feelings somewhat. i really like those kind of caption type things, so i will try to do this every time i submit something for you to see. it's a silly poem, and i am not the best writer, but hopefully i could learn to write wittier and amazing sounding phrases and sentences.
now onto the drawing and the meaning behind it. if you haven't figured it out, the girl in the painting is the wicked witch of the east, before she turned all evil. i started doodling a sketch of what you see now when an sudden urge to watch "wicked" arose. so i did, for a few parts anyway - on youtube. developing the idea, i started to think about the melting part in the original movie. then i started thinking of snow. and voila, it all came together.
basically, elphaba (i believe that is her name) really wanted to play outside. but knowing her condition, she couldn't, or else she would melt. the poor little witch felt sad and alone, watching all the kids play outside. she admired winter, the harshness of it but also the wonderful feeling that one gets when they arrive home after playing outside all day. or so she was told. elphaba wanted to experience all that, to feel the snowflakes on her skin, but she couldn't. stuck inside, the young witch was forced to watch as children played, her hatred but also her sadness deepening.
i would like to think of this idea as original but someone probably beat me to it. still, it's a nice painting, no?
tools used were watercolor paper (cold press), watercolor paints, regular black pen, white acrylic paint for a few touch ups and masking fluid.
um, i guess that's it? i might post the original in the scrapbook since my scanner refused to properly scan the picture with the proper colors. love watercolors, hate scanning watercolors. i slightly enhanced the saturation to make the colors brighter and the painting sharper.
thank you so much for the support. i hope you guys like this illustration. my goal is to update my deviantart account with two pieces of art so be sure to check back! ... or... you could always "watch" me? hur hur.
have a great day everyone!
oh, and please do not use my art in any way. featuring my work on deviantart is fine, but claiming it as your own work or using any part of the painting is not permitted by me. if you are going to post it somewhere other than da, please let me know and get my permission? :c
i like to think that my style is semi-original and i really put a lot of effort into these little pieces, so having someone claim that as their own or re-posting it somewhere is not... ideal.
disclaimer: elphaba is not my own character, and i do not claim her. the painting is though! c:
EDIT: the original is now available for view in the scrapbook. i still feel this is a better piece.

i haven't seen "wicked" but i heard it was fantastic. judging by the beginning parts (on youtube) of some of the singing and performances, i would have to agree. deep and interesting storyline? haha, that's actually where i got my inspiration, from those clips, but i couldn't watch the rest of the show because of copyrighted issues the user had with his/her videos. boo.
thanks for much for the lovely comment! glad you liked it! <3
