Appearance > A mix of golden-yellow and ice-blue scales, patterned much like a calico cat. The blue scales have scattered white spots, almost like snowfall. Sectoral eyes, with blue on top and yellow at the bottom. Mostly SkyWing-like anatomy wise, including large wings built for flight. His scales are IceWing-like in pattern. The ends of his horns have formations like icicles on them. The IceWing ruff-spikes on his neck are larger than a normal IceWing's, and so are the similar spikes on the end of his tail.

Quick Note: Frostnip is a transman and only realizes their identity/begins to transition at age 4 (dragon years). I refer to Frostnip with 'he/him' pronouns throughout his whole history because even if it's about the past, trans people should be referred to with their actual pronouns. Just to clear up any confusion! <3

Before Hatching > Everest was hatched into a family on the cusp of becoming nobility. While her parents and siblings were content with where they were, Everest always dreamed of something more. She dedicated her life to making sure she was the ideal IceWing, studying hard to get good grades and agonizing over proper IceWing etiquette so she could impress higher-ranked dragons. Her family continued to be very well-off, but Everest was still always seeking more.
Tusk only ever knew the Ice Kingdom, despite being a SkyWing/IceWing. His IceWing mother, who had come from a family of nobles, had briefly eloped from the kingdom with a SkyWing, but when the SkyWing father suddenly left, the IceWing returned back to the Ice Kingdom with their egg. However, upon returning, she learned that she had been cut off from her family's wealth once she had left. Infuriated by this downgrade, Tusk’s mother obsessed over climbing up the ranks, pressuring his son to do better and better so both of them could have a better life. Consequently, becoming nobility became Tusk’s main goal in life. When he began living on his own, he continued with this goal.

Tusk and Everest met one fateful night when they coincidentally went out to hunt at the same place at the same time. Everest was about to catch a big polar bear when Tusk swooped in to try and catch it himself. The two of them collided, and the polar bear was alerted to their presence and ran away.
“You frost-brained idiot!” Everest roared at him. “You made me miss!”
“I’d say you made me miss,” Tusk observed coldly.
“That was MY catch,” she snapped back. “I needed that! I was going to skin it and sell it for the best prices in the Kingdom.”
“Well, I needed it to sell too, y'know!” Tusk snapped, and then the two of them paused.
After a brief conversation, it was clear they had similar goals. They became partners of a sort from then on, working together to do things that would get the both of them noticed. The idea of dragonets didn’t cross their mind at all, until one night Tusk suggested that if their children did well, that could reflect on them as well. Everest dragged her talons about the idea for a while, angered by the idea of having to carry eggs and care for dragonets, but eventually came around to the idea and agreed to it.
So, roughly two years after they first met, Tusk and Everest had two eggs between them. The first hatched egg was named Owl, and the second was called Frostnip.

Baby Dragonet > Thankfully, both Owl and Frostnip were born with the ability to withstand the biting cold of the Ice Kingdom. Owl seemed like a perfect IceWing as well: aside from a subtle red fade to his scales, he passed perfectly as an IceWing.
Frostnip, however, was very clearly a SkyWing/IceWing hybrid. This bothered both his parents, as Tusk looking like a clear hybrid was already trouble enough, but they figured it wouldn’t matter if Frostnip acted totally IceWing-like.
Even when the dragonets were still very young, Tusk began to teach the both of them about IceWing society, trying to enforce the manners into them immediately. Owl took to it well, already excited about becoming a ‘real’ IceWing. Frostnip, on the other talon, lost focus more easily and preferred to do more fun things.
Dragonet > Owl only became more excited about IceWing noble society as he got older. He fit perfectly into it, learning the etiquette and rules without much trouble. This pleased Tusk and Everest very much, and they were usually praising Owl for his success so far.
Frostnip seemed to only struggle more and more. He never seemed to remember rules at the right moment, and usually failed to recall important things at the exact wrong moment. This frustrated Everest and Tusk to no end, and they were usually scolding him for something. Owl, who felt bad for his sibling, tried to teach Frostnip, but it didn't help very much. Owl persisted until their father ordered him to focus on himself, forcing Owl to quit. However, sometimes, when they were home alone or when their parents were asleep, Owl would wake Frost up to try and teach him something. While there was still a divide between Owl and Frost, created by their parents, the two of them bonded during these times.

One day while out in the snow with his parents, Frost came across an arctic hare. Their parents wanted him to kill it for prey, but Frost adored the creature and begged to keep it. They entertained him for awhile, but didn't help him. Frost, upset by his pet's struggles, sought out scrolls about rabbit and hare care. He managed to find one, and used the new knowledge to take better care of his hare. His hare ended up living for 20 months, and Frost sought out another one to keep, which he found very soon. Over the years, he continued to keep many hares, occasionally even two at a time once he felt more confident.
When the two of them were old enough to enroll in the average IceWing school they would be attending, Frostnip was absolutely terrified. He was worried that he wouldn’t fit in at all, and wouldn’t make any friends. To his surprise, he did fit in decently well, even if he messed up a few times. He didn’t make too many friends, but he had a few acquaintances. Over the years, three dragons became his very best friends- he formed a trio with a RainWing/IceWing hybrid named Gem, and an IceWing named Wolf, and also befriended a higher-ranked noble named Lucien. It didn’t matter to him that Lucien was a Night/Ice hybrid, or that Gem was half RainWing. What mattered is that all of them cared for him.

Frost would often do a lot of fun activities with Lucien, most notably tree climbing. The two of them would do it often together, seeking out greater and greater views as they got better. With his friend Wolf, he would often go hunting, both for food and for fun. Over time, he picked up a few skills from these trips.
But Frostnip’s parents didn’t care for his choices. Many different times, Tusk argued that Gem and Wolf’s parents were slackers who didn't care enough about upholding upper-class standards, and that he should befriend a noble that didn’t have ‘disgusting’ NightWing blood. Frostnip refused and stood up for his friends. In retaliation, Tusk began to berate his son, telling him that he was a waste and worth nothing.
This lowered Frostnip’s self esteem greatly, and it didn’t help that his parents continued to show obvious favoritism for Owl. The worst part was that they weren’t completely wrong- Owl seemed to be doing so much better than him at absolutely everything. This dug at Frostnip and bothered him for days on end until one then, he finally mentally broke down in front of Lucien, sobbing about how he felt like such a waste. After this breakdown, Frostnip lost motivation to try at anything, and took a break from school because of it. His parents, however, didn’t give him a break from their constant insults, which only worsened Frostnip's mood.

During their break, at the age of 4, Frostnip found that they didn’t like being referred to as she/her, the pronouns they were born with, and they felt a disconnection to being a girl. They asked their friends to refer to them as he/him and a boy, and found that this made them feel euphoric. They socially came out as a transman, and were generally accepted.
The mental sadness caused by Frostnip's breakdown lifted after a few months, and Frostnip decided they were going to get into a hobby they truly had interest in- flying. Maybe if he did well, his parents would notice him and feel proud. He started practicing every single day, getting up at the crack of dawn and doing laps or practicing more and more difficult maneuvers. He had started going to school again, and he asked teachers and fellow students to give him flying tips or lessons. He began improving over time, and combined with Owl, Gem, Wolf, and Lucien’s encouragement, he started to feel more confident in himself. Yet, deep down, he still felt a gnawing fear that he still wasn’t good enough. He bottled up his feelings, not wanting to burden his friends.
Everest and Tusk were not pleased by Frostnip's newfound skill. They thought it was too similar to a SkyWing’s flying talents, and thought this made him less IceWing. They believed that Frostnip was only going to continue weighing them down, and so, they devised a plan to cut him off.
One night, Tusk told Frostnip that he was feeling pleased with his progress, and wanted to go on a fly with him. Frostnip agreed, believing that he had finally managed to impress his parents. The two of them flew in silence for a while, going over the Great Ice Cliff and approaching the SandWing border. Frostnip suddenly turned to speak to his father, and saw Tusk lunging at him in mid-air. There was no time to move out of the way, and Tusk clawed at Frostnip in mid-air, managing to slice his throat. He then shoved his son away from him, towards the ground. Assuming the job was done, he flew back to wash his talons in the snow, and then went home.
Frostnip was in a state of shock as he began to fall towards the ground, leaving him unable to recover in time. He hit the ground hard, and blacked out.
The next time he woke, he was in an unfamiliar house with a SandWing. He tried to get up, but found that this hurt too much. The SandWing noticed he was awake, and came over and explained the situation to him- she was named Jackrabbit, and she lived in a city on the border of the Ice and the Sand kingdoms. One of her IceWing friends had come across Frostnip, injured and near death, and had brought him straight to Jackrabbit- who happened to be a healer. Frostnip had been struggling for quite awhile, but he'd luckily managed to survive with a throat wound that would scar and a broken wing that would heal.
In a flash, Frostnip remembered what had happened to him. He grew despondent, refusing to talk to Jackrabbit and not eating much. Jackrabbit was patient, and even over a short time, the two of them began to become friends. After a time, he had physically recovered- but mentally, he was still struggling with the fact that his father had tried to kill him. He convinced himself that his entire family had been in on it, and his self-esteem sank even lower than it had already been. His thoughts eventually led to him believing that he hadn't been good enough for anyone in the Ice Kingdom, even Gem and Wolf, and his spirits sank lower- and bitterness set in.
One day, Jackrabbit excitedly told Frostnip that there was somebody she wanted him to meet. Frostnip looked up and saw his two best friends, Gem and Wolf. They explained that Tusk had told everybody that Frostnip had run away. Many dragons had believed him, as Frostnip had never quite fit in within the Kingdom, but Gem and Wolf had felt odd about it, and had been travelling to all the border cities to ask if anybody had seen him. Joy and relief, fear and anger warred within him. He still loved his friends, deep down, but he felt afraid to tell them the truth- that he hadn't left the Kingdom, and Tusk had been trying to kill him. How could you be a good dragon, worthy of friendship and love, if your own father tried to murder you? His mind had also begun to convince him that his friends didn't truly care for him all that much, as irrational as it really was. Frost was still considering what to stay when a third dragon stepped out from behind Gem and Wolf- his brother, Owl.
Owl explained that he hadn't believed his father's story, either, and had suspected something was up. He'd consulted Gem and Wolf, who had agreed, and the three of them had come together. He hadn't wanted to reveal himself right away, due to the tension between them.
Frost wasn't sure what to think of this development, but the idea suddenly struck- his brother was doing this to look better. Chasing his supposed runaway brother and convincing him to stick with IceWing society would be exactly the kind of thing that might help him.
With this in his head, Frost snapped.
"Shut up!" He suddenly screamed, and all the dragons in the room flinched. "You- you don't really care! You're just doing this to look good! To gain the upper-talon, like always! Well, I'm not letting you do it this time! For once, I'm not going to bow to you!"
Gem and Wolf looked shocked, while Owl stepped towards his brother, looking concerned. "Frostnip, you aren't thinking rationally. I'm doing this because you are my brother." Owl's eyes suddenly narrowed as he noticed Frost's scar. "Wait- what happened? What did Father do to you?"
Frost refused to talk about it. He shoved Owl away from him and darted out of Jackrabbit's house.
Not daring to fly on his still healing wing, Frostnip ran for a while, his healing injuries reignited with pain, before he finally stopped near the very edge of the IceWing kingdom. He heard somebody land behind him, and whirled around to see it was Jackrabbit. She told Frostnip that she didn't understand his reaction to his friends and brother, and that she thought he should return to them and apologize. But Frostnip, still feeling conflicted emotions, refused. Jackrabbit expressed her disappointment, but told him this- "If you're determined to get away from your old life, go to the Isle Mezzo. Start over. There's little pressure to fit into a certain tribe there. Hopefully, you will be happier. Please try to visit someday, Frostnip- your friends and brother care about you." Frostnip begged her to come with him, but she declined, stating that her home was back in the border city. She gave him some money and a hunting knife and told him to take a boat to Mezzo.
With her advice in mind, Frostnip regretfully bade Jackrabbit goodbye and traveled to the Isle Mezzo by boat. On arrival, he tried not to think about how he did not have a place to stay, or how he didn't yet have a way to support himself. All he thought about was finally getting a fresh start. If he couldn't prove himself as an IceWing, then he would be a SkyWing.
At this point in time, Frostnip resides in the Crystalline Mountains/Valleys. He has no particular home/place to stay due to arriving to Mezzo with no real plan, and he survives by hunting. He is trying to look for a good place to work so that he can start a more stable life.

Bottles Up Emotions > Frostnip has a very bad habit of bottling up his feelings and keeping them to himself, in order to not bother others. Eventually, he will reach his breaking point, which may cause him to lash out at others, self-isolate, or otherwise break down.

Quick Note: Frostnip is a transman and only realizes their identity/begins to transition at age 4 (dragon years). I refer to Frostnip with 'he/him' pronouns throughout his whole history because even if it's about the past, trans people should be referred to with their actual pronouns. Just to clear up any confusion! <3

Before Hatching > Everest was hatched into a family on the cusp of becoming nobility. While her parents and siblings were content with where they were, Everest always dreamed of something more. She dedicated her life to making sure she was the ideal IceWing, studying hard to get good grades and agonizing over proper IceWing etiquette so she could impress higher-ranked dragons. Her family continued to be very well-off, but Everest was still always seeking more.
Tusk only ever knew the Ice Kingdom, despite being a SkyWing/IceWing. His IceWing mother, who had come from a family of nobles, had briefly eloped from the kingdom with a SkyWing, but when the SkyWing father suddenly left, the IceWing returned back to the Ice Kingdom with their egg. However, upon returning, she learned that she had been cut off from her family's wealth once she had left. Infuriated by this downgrade, Tusk’s mother obsessed over climbing up the ranks, pressuring his son to do better and better so both of them could have a better life. Consequently, becoming nobility became Tusk’s main goal in life. When he began living on his own, he continued with this goal.

Tusk and Everest met one fateful night when they coincidentally went out to hunt at the same place at the same time. Everest was about to catch a big polar bear when Tusk swooped in to try and catch it himself. The two of them collided, and the polar bear was alerted to their presence and ran away.
“You frost-brained idiot!” Everest roared at him. “You made me miss!”
“I’d say you made me miss,” Tusk observed coldly.
“That was MY catch,” she snapped back. “I needed that! I was going to skin it and sell it for the best prices in the Kingdom.”
“Well, I needed it to sell too, y'know!” Tusk snapped, and then the two of them paused.
After a brief conversation, it was clear they had similar goals. They became partners of a sort from then on, working together to do things that would get the both of them noticed. The idea of dragonets didn’t cross their mind at all, until one night Tusk suggested that if their children did well, that could reflect on them as well. Everest dragged her talons about the idea for a while, angered by the idea of having to carry eggs and care for dragonets, but eventually came around to the idea and agreed to it.
So, roughly two years after they first met, Tusk and Everest had two eggs between them. The first hatched egg was named Owl, and the second was called Frostnip.

Baby Dragonet > Thankfully, both Owl and Frostnip were born with the ability to withstand the biting cold of the Ice Kingdom. Owl seemed like a perfect IceWing as well: aside from a subtle red fade to his scales, he passed perfectly as an IceWing.
Frostnip, however, was very clearly a SkyWing/IceWing hybrid. This bothered both his parents, as Tusk looking like a clear hybrid was already trouble enough, but they figured it wouldn’t matter if Frostnip acted totally IceWing-like.
Even when the dragonets were still very young, Tusk began to teach the both of them about IceWing society, trying to enforce the manners into them immediately. Owl took to it well, already excited about becoming a ‘real’ IceWing. Frostnip, on the other talon, lost focus more easily and preferred to do more fun things.
Dragonet > Owl only became more excited about IceWing noble society as he got older. He fit perfectly into it, learning the etiquette and rules without much trouble. This pleased Tusk and Everest very much, and they were usually praising Owl for his success so far.
Frostnip seemed to only struggle more and more. He never seemed to remember rules at the right moment, and usually failed to recall important things at the exact wrong moment. This frustrated Everest and Tusk to no end, and they were usually scolding him for something. Owl, who felt bad for his sibling, tried to teach Frostnip, but it didn't help very much. Owl persisted until their father ordered him to focus on himself, forcing Owl to quit. However, sometimes, when they were home alone or when their parents were asleep, Owl would wake Frost up to try and teach him something. While there was still a divide between Owl and Frost, created by their parents, the two of them bonded during these times.

One day while out in the snow with his parents, Frost came across an arctic hare. Their parents wanted him to kill it for prey, but Frost adored the creature and begged to keep it. They entertained him for awhile, but didn't help him. Frost, upset by his pet's struggles, sought out scrolls about rabbit and hare care. He managed to find one, and used the new knowledge to take better care of his hare. His hare ended up living for 20 months, and Frost sought out another one to keep, which he found very soon. Over the years, he continued to keep many hares, occasionally even two at a time once he felt more confident.
When the two of them were old enough to enroll in the average IceWing school they would be attending, Frostnip was absolutely terrified. He was worried that he wouldn’t fit in at all, and wouldn’t make any friends. To his surprise, he did fit in decently well, even if he messed up a few times. He didn’t make too many friends, but he had a few acquaintances. Over the years, three dragons became his very best friends- he formed a trio with a RainWing/IceWing hybrid named Gem, and an IceWing named Wolf, and also befriended a higher-ranked noble named Lucien. It didn’t matter to him that Lucien was a Night/Ice hybrid, or that Gem was half RainWing. What mattered is that all of them cared for him.

Frost would often do a lot of fun activities with Lucien, most notably tree climbing. The two of them would do it often together, seeking out greater and greater views as they got better. With his friend Wolf, he would often go hunting, both for food and for fun. Over time, he picked up a few skills from these trips.
But Frostnip’s parents didn’t care for his choices. Many different times, Tusk argued that Gem and Wolf’s parents were slackers who didn't care enough about upholding upper-class standards, and that he should befriend a noble that didn’t have ‘disgusting’ NightWing blood. Frostnip refused and stood up for his friends. In retaliation, Tusk began to berate his son, telling him that he was a waste and worth nothing.
This lowered Frostnip’s self esteem greatly, and it didn’t help that his parents continued to show obvious favoritism for Owl. The worst part was that they weren’t completely wrong- Owl seemed to be doing so much better than him at absolutely everything. This dug at Frostnip and bothered him for days on end until one then, he finally mentally broke down in front of Lucien, sobbing about how he felt like such a waste. After this breakdown, Frostnip lost motivation to try at anything, and took a break from school because of it. His parents, however, didn’t give him a break from their constant insults, which only worsened Frostnip's mood.

During their break, at the age of 4, Frostnip found that they didn’t like being referred to as she/her, the pronouns they were born with, and they felt a disconnection to being a girl. They asked their friends to refer to them as he/him and a boy, and found that this made them feel euphoric. They socially came out as a transman, and were generally accepted.
The mental sadness caused by Frostnip's breakdown lifted after a few months, and Frostnip decided they were going to get into a hobby they truly had interest in- flying. Maybe if he did well, his parents would notice him and feel proud. He started practicing every single day, getting up at the crack of dawn and doing laps or practicing more and more difficult maneuvers. He had started going to school again, and he asked teachers and fellow students to give him flying tips or lessons. He began improving over time, and combined with Owl, Gem, Wolf, and Lucien’s encouragement, he started to feel more confident in himself. Yet, deep down, he still felt a gnawing fear that he still wasn’t good enough. He bottled up his feelings, not wanting to burden his friends.
Everest and Tusk were not pleased by Frostnip's newfound skill. They thought it was too similar to a SkyWing’s flying talents, and thought this made him less IceWing. They believed that Frostnip was only going to continue weighing them down, and so, they devised a plan to cut him off.
One night, Tusk told Frostnip that he was feeling pleased with his progress, and wanted to go on a fly with him. Frostnip agreed, believing that he had finally managed to impress his parents. The two of them flew in silence for a while, going over the Great Ice Cliff and approaching the SandWing border. Frostnip suddenly turned to speak to his father, and saw Tusk lunging at him in mid-air. There was no time to move out of the way, and Tusk clawed at Frostnip in mid-air, managing to slice his throat. He then shoved his son away from him, towards the ground. Assuming the job was done, he flew back to wash his talons in the snow, and then went home.
Frostnip was in a state of shock as he began to fall towards the ground, leaving him unable to recover in time. He hit the ground hard, and blacked out.
The next time he woke, he was in an unfamiliar house with a SandWing. He tried to get up, but found that this hurt too much. The SandWing noticed he was awake, and came over and explained the situation to him- she was named Jackrabbit, and she lived in a city on the border of the Ice and the Sand kingdoms. One of her IceWing friends had come across Frostnip, injured and near death, and had brought him straight to Jackrabbit- who happened to be a healer. Frostnip had been struggling for quite awhile, but he'd luckily managed to survive with a throat wound that would scar and a broken wing that would heal.
In a flash, Frostnip remembered what had happened to him. He grew despondent, refusing to talk to Jackrabbit and not eating much. Jackrabbit was patient, and even over a short time, the two of them began to become friends. After a time, he had physically recovered- but mentally, he was still struggling with the fact that his father had tried to kill him. He convinced himself that his entire family had been in on it, and his self-esteem sank even lower than it had already been. His thoughts eventually led to him believing that he hadn't been good enough for anyone in the Ice Kingdom, even Gem and Wolf, and his spirits sank lower- and bitterness set in.
One day, Jackrabbit excitedly told Frostnip that there was somebody she wanted him to meet. Frostnip looked up and saw his two best friends, Gem and Wolf. They explained that Tusk had told everybody that Frostnip had run away. Many dragons had believed him, as Frostnip had never quite fit in within the Kingdom, but Gem and Wolf had felt odd about it, and had been travelling to all the border cities to ask if anybody had seen him. Joy and relief, fear and anger warred within him. He still loved his friends, deep down, but he felt afraid to tell them the truth- that he hadn't left the Kingdom, and Tusk had been trying to kill him. How could you be a good dragon, worthy of friendship and love, if your own father tried to murder you? His mind had also begun to convince him that his friends didn't truly care for him all that much, as irrational as it really was. Frost was still considering what to stay when a third dragon stepped out from behind Gem and Wolf- his brother, Owl.
Owl explained that he hadn't believed his father's story, either, and had suspected something was up. He'd consulted Gem and Wolf, who had agreed, and the three of them had come together. He hadn't wanted to reveal himself right away, due to the tension between them.
Frost wasn't sure what to think of this development, but the idea suddenly struck- his brother was doing this to look better. Chasing his supposed runaway brother and convincing him to stick with IceWing society would be exactly the kind of thing that might help him.
With this in his head, Frost snapped.
"Shut up!" He suddenly screamed, and all the dragons in the room flinched. "You- you don't really care! You're just doing this to look good! To gain the upper-talon, like always! Well, I'm not letting you do it this time! For once, I'm not going to bow to you!"
Gem and Wolf looked shocked, while Owl stepped towards his brother, looking concerned. "Frostnip, you aren't thinking rationally. I'm doing this because you are my brother." Owl's eyes suddenly narrowed as he noticed Frost's scar. "Wait- what happened? What did Father do to you?"
Frost refused to talk about it. He shoved Owl away from him and darted out of Jackrabbit's house.
Not daring to fly on his still healing wing, Frostnip ran for a while, his healing injuries reignited with pain, before he finally stopped near the very edge of the IceWing kingdom. He heard somebody land behind him, and whirled around to see it was Jackrabbit. She told Frostnip that she didn't understand his reaction to his friends and brother, and that she thought he should return to them and apologize. But Frostnip, still feeling conflicted emotions, refused. Jackrabbit expressed her disappointment, but told him this- "If you're determined to get away from your old life, go to the Isle Mezzo. Start over. There's little pressure to fit into a certain tribe there. Hopefully, you will be happier. Please try to visit someday, Frostnip- your friends and brother care about you." Frostnip begged her to come with him, but she declined, stating that her home was back in the border city. She gave him some money and a hunting knife and told him to take a boat to Mezzo.
With her advice in mind, Frostnip regretfully bade Jackrabbit goodbye and traveled to the Isle Mezzo by boat. On arrival, he tried not to think about how he did not have a place to stay, or how he didn't yet have a way to support himself. All he thought about was finally getting a fresh start. If he couldn't prove himself as an IceWing, then he would be a SkyWing.
At this point in time, Frostnip resides in the Crystalline Mountains/Valleys. He has no particular home/place to stay due to arriving to Mezzo with no real plan, and he survives by hunting. He is trying to look for a good place to work so that he can start a more stable life.
