Description
As I lie, groggy with sleep still in my eyes an image comes to mind. I see two men’s shirts hanging in the bottom left corner, there is nothing else. I don’t understand the image, but it hangs in my mind like a trapeze artist with no clothes. I’m not sure why I remember it so vividly or why it matters. I lie there thinking about it, the doona edging further down to expose myself to the white washed ceiling that is bathed in 5AM light. The red numbers flick over on the clock by the bed and I make a move, discarding my bedding and treading carefully, so as not to wake the other. Closing the door slowly, so as not to even let out a creak, I wash my face, switch on the kettle and sit at the computer listening to the sounds of the kettle stirring, almost like the sound of water flowing around quickly in circles, almost like the sound of a river muffled. I start my search, looking through the archives of photos for men’s shirts – none are to be found. A new idea flows into my mind and I set to selecting the right shirts and creating them myself.Time goes by until I see what I want before me on the screen. Finding the right texture and then merging and it doesn’t quite look right. I see a line in the space on the right side of the shirt, I know where it belongs and find something to make it real. Then, it is still not quite right, something is missing. It just needs an extra added touch of flowers in a vase… and then, the computer freezes.
Sometimes when we get an obstacle in our goal, we don’t go back to it for awhile, but here I am going back to put the final touches onto this image that doesn’t mean anything, it is just an image that wanted to come into being…

I like this, you have put a lot of thought and work into this photo, it makes my photos look boring.

Thankyou. It was an odd little odd idea that came into my mind once. I used Photoshop to put everything together like that. The only photo that is mine is the shirts on the back of the chair, the rest are stock photos. And your photos aren't boring.

Thanks, do yours do that sometimes?

This has such a cool vibe. I really like the background color and somewhat puzzling perspective. Many times I set out to make something specific and the work just goes in its own direction.

Thanks. I did want to keep the image a little distant from reality. I think that's the best thing, just following the direction that the work itself leads you in. I often just keep working on something until it tells me it's finished.

very interesting manip! i know what you mean... sometimes an image has a strong enough voice to make itself real, whether it brings any understanding with it or not.

Thanks. I don't think the manip itself looks impressive, (even though it took quite a bit of time), I just liked it mixed with the writing that explains how it came to be. Do you get images like that?

yeah, or at least i used to. maybe the key is shutting up and letting them speak to you, instead of trying too hard... i think this one is actual Art, and looks very good.

I know what you mean with just letting the image be, rather than trying hard and trying to interpret it or get more out of it or find something that just isn't there. My things that come to me are usually stories and I do have to quickly run and grab a piece of paper before the flow away. If I'm too late, then they're no longer there with the wonderful-ness that they started with because my brain has interfered by then.
Thanks very much for the favourite and compliment. It means a lot. I do actually have a soft spot for this one.
