Description
This is lineart for color-me-club 's latest contest. The themes are dancing or science-fiction, or, for an extra challenge, we could draw a picture with BOTH themes.Yes, please; I'll take two!
My sister Michelle took me to see a ballet "sample platter" a couple of years ago, and one of the selections was Firebird. I absolutely loved it, and I've had that birdy lady dancing in my head ever since. I just had to work in a bit of that pas de deux between Ivan and Firebird for this picture!
Also, I have been wanting to do a heavily TRON-inspired picture for some time. So there's the science-fiction bit.

Wow! Your line work is really awesome! I'm tempted to colour it, but I don't have much free time. Good luck in the contest!

Thanks very much!
You're always welcome to color the design, even if you don't enter it in the Color-Me-Club's February contest. I really enjoy seeing how other artists color these line designs. (...Believe me, it'll be a while before I get to this one's coloring. I suffer from limited free time too!)

Thanks very much! I'm glad the visual cue for Firebird was effective.
I may have missed the main TRON fanart period back when the second movie came out, but I thought it would work very well stylistically with the science-fiction and dancing theme.

Thanks very much. We had a perfect set of themes this time - I love to draw dancing things, and the science-fiction theme just screamed for an excuse to draw *glow lines* like in the TRON movies.

It's going to be fun, but also challenging - especially if more than one glow color is used.

Thank you! This was a difficult piece, too, as I'm used to doing twisty dragons. It was a fun challenge, though, and I'm glad I decided to buckle down and enter this contest! (I saw your piece too - it's fantastic!)

No surprise, Given how the world of Tron looks like panes of the glass used as the screens of computers, PDAs, Touchscreens etc...

Oh yes, because nothing says science-fiction like GLOW LINES! That was my idea, too. I love TRON's glow lines, especially in the Legacy film.

Yeah, I had been considering several different ideas, including a Jazzdragons In Spaaaaaace thing (which I may do later anyway), but when I ran across the photo I used as my point of departure, it was TRON that hit me like a stylistic jackhammer.

Ideally, we'll see a whole LOT of variations on those glow-lines from Color-Me-Club. I haven't composed my own color scheme in my head yet, other than using an interplay between warm and cool colors.

I love the anatomy & poses in this one. You usually draw slightly squat human figures, but these look lean and lithe, much like an actual dancer. I like the proportions of the people/ programs. There really is a very strong feel of 'dance' from it.

rachaelm5 In reply to Tenebrian [2013-01-21 17:00:01 +0000 UTC]
Thanks!
I was paying closer attention to the proportions of the dancers' bodies this time - so yes, I *can* manage slightly less muscle-bound characters when I absolutely have to.
