Description
This is lineart for color-me-club 's latest contest. The themes are dancing or science-fiction, or, for an extra challenge, we could draw a picture with BOTH themes.Yes, please; I'll take two!
My sister Michelle took me to see a ballet "sample platter" a couple of years ago, and one of the selections was Firebird. I absolutely loved it, and I've had that birdy lady dancing in my head ever since. I just had to work in a bit of that pas de deux between Ivan and Firebird for this picture!
Also, I have been wanting to do a heavily TRON-inspired picture for some time. So there's the science-fiction bit.

Robots. It's robots that I need to tackle next, and I have absolutely no mind for mechanical engineering. One of these days I mean to sit down and do some serious Transformers fanart.

Drawing robots scare me. So many straight lines and angles. Curves seem so much easier. Hehehe. Would love to see the fan art. I haven't seen the new series, but I remember the original.

The latest comics, at least, are absolutely spectacular. They're drawn by the guys who grew up with the Transformers and who seem to have an instinctual grasp of mechanical engineering (at least to my untutored eyes). The artwork just blows me away, and the stories... The stories are all grown up now. They aren't for young kids any more.
Transformers Prime, the animated series, on the other hand, is more kid-friendly - but not so much so that one would spend each episode cringing at robotic naivete. I watched the first season and found myself impressed in spite of everything, and in spite of *human* involvement. The stories are not only good, but they're internally consistent - nobody is getting away with plot holes, and the stories build on themselves chronologically, which the original series really didn't. The original series - TV and comics both - was designed to sell the Hasbro toys more than anything else, while the latter-day comics and 'toons are actually designed to tell stories. And I love 'em for that. Enough to maybe, maaaaaybe, consider expanding my brain cells enough to encompass mechanical character designs.
