no problem, and thank you for joining my group And for the entries. Also, I do have a contest going on, it would be great if you want to join:Β fantasy-4-you.deviantart.com/jβ¦

I'm afraid I don't have sufficient time to do any contest pieces right now.Β I am working on a large number of commissions andΒ I would like to get them finished before I start any new projects.Β Thank you for the invitation, in any event!

Thank you!Β This is one of my personal favorites - lots of things fell right into place during its construction, and that always makes me happy.Β

Stunning and gorgeous!Β The little bits of mosaic tiles, along with the mat edging and stone/watch parts all make the dragon pop that much more...as well as pull the whole thing together.Β Absolutely stunning.Β <3Β I wouldn't mind this on my wall, that's for sure!

Thanks very much!Β I'm very happy with the way this one turned out, what with the bits of experimentation in layering and 3D bits and pieces (and laying in those tiles one at a time, by hand, was tedious even by *my* standards).Β I'm still hoping that it finds a good home one of these days; I've sent it off to DragonCon this year to see what it can do for me.Β I'm definitely going to go with this kind of technique (but larger tiles...) for some of the other dragons in this family/series thing!

This is absolutely stunning, and I'm certain the original is even more so in person. I hope I get to see this wonderful dragon "in person" sometime soon!

Thanks very much!
Plain ol' table salt gives me some of the greatest effects - these days I use it in almost all of the watercolor work I do. It saves me the trouble of actually having to *draw* a background.

Tricks of the trade are wonderful!
I used to watch one of watercolorists on TV on Saturdays. I learned so much about them from him. Watercolors are so much fun!
And you are most welcome!

I love the vibrancy of the colors, the application of rare bits and added dimension they bring to this creation. I think my favorite parts are those vivid, sky-blue spines! They really pop the composition!

Yes, things worked out better than I'd hoped with this project. It was definitely high time to get some more bits and bobs involved, and I have always loved the gold-and-turquoise balance. This is in spite of the fact that I always see turquoise paired with silver in jewelry! Weird. But it *worked*.

Sometimes the detailed color schemes hit me like a bolt from the blue, and I know exactly what colors need to go in which places. This was one of those times. I can only hope the other dragons gel so easily! So far, they have - I've got one for the Bookwyrm that hit me just a couple of days ago, so he's next on the agenda.

I get those flashes of art inspiration sometimes as well. Though more often than not, as I'm sure you know, you have to fight and kick and scream to get it all figured out!

rachaelm5 In reply to BrittaM [2012-09-22 16:29:40 +0000 UTC]
Oh yeah; those bolts of inspiration are only the starting point. It always evolves from there. I've come to expect that.

Yes, most of my work is traditional art. I'm old-fashioned and still like to make a mess all over the table.
