I just LOVE the green-blue mix, so subtle and graceful, it could also pass for peacock feathers :3

This is one of my favorites to date, too. I think it helped that I started with a good, strong drawing and worked my way forward from there.

All it takes is twenty years of practice. Okay, that's how long it's taken me to learn these skills. Most people move faster than I do!

A beautiful piece. I love how you were able to bring out the swirls of the dragon with the watch gears and other baubles in the border. The gold tiles give the composition a steady geometric look that only enhances the whimsical background and make the scales pop. Very well done. I hope I get to see it in person someday before you sell it. I'm sure it is dazzling under good light.

rachaelm5 In reply to Tygepc [2012-09-11 22:19:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much!

Yes, that was very much an effort to balance blue and gold, organic and geometric. I love throwing them all together. Sometimes, like this time, it actually works!

Well, if this guy doesn't sell at Archon in a few weeks, I'll definitely be bringing it to ConQuest in 2013.

frazzled-mage [2012-09-10 14:00:31 +0000 UTC]

now I think it is amusing that the woman who spends 100's of hours pushing the Prismacolor pencils thought that placing some tiles was tedious . This is lovely.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rachaelm5 In reply to frazzled-mage [2012-09-11 01:20:15 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

Heh - the colored pencil process is fairly organic; I color by feel as much as by sight. Laying tiles with irritating precision, however, requires a different mindset - much more mechanical. It didn't help that the little sticky bits on the backs of the tiles were fighting me all the way through and getting little tiles stuck EVERYWHERE.

right small enough to be what you wanted for the pic, and as a bonus they adhere to the buttered toast law of physics and land butter side down if you drop them and stick immediately.

Dang, that is gorgeous. The colors...I cannot describe how eye-pleasing they are, and how beautiful they look together. And this is so completely original and imaginative and creative, with the border designs and elements especially. The amount of work and effort you put into this is undeniable. If I had the funds, I would totally buy the original off of you. In a heartbeat. Just like that. But I don't.... So, I will adore it and marvel over it from afar. Seriously, truly amazing work!!

Thank you so much! What a wonderful compliment.

I do understand about limited funds; I realize that most folks won't be able to purchase one of my big originals. That's why I started making prints quite a long time ago.

I just might have to break down and get a print. It would be preferable to having nothing but an image on a computer screen to stare at. I think this is my most favorite piece you have ever done!
