Description
Gift for my old friend Thyzara who I drew an icon for waaaay back in 2013! I needed to get my art juices flowing again, so I decided to redraw it with my style now and... wow, the difference is like night and day.Comparison image: firedragon97.deviantart.com/arβ¦
It goes to show that artistic talent / ability doesn't stem from just being 'born good'. It's a lot of practice and time put into doing the same thing over and over, practicing, and trying new things to get it right. You don't become professional overnight! There's been years of repetition, anatomical research, and tutorial reading between these two images.

Very lovely details, especially the muscles and the shadows!

Definitely right about the practice part, show me a person who was good from the start and you'll have found yourself either a liar or someone who hasn't shown you everything The comparison is amazing, you've done yourself a lot of good with your art style!

Aw thank you!! And yep, definitely; it makes me sad to hear people say they'll 'never get to my level' or something of the sort; everyone can and everyone certainly will - and definitely will surpass me! - if they just try and work on it

That is a mighty fine picture there. The scale detail and smooth curves really makes this look nice and crisp and beautiful. How did you do that? Is there a tutorial somewhere that helped you pull that detail scaly look off?

Thank you for your kind words!!
I don't really have a tutorial I've made or looked at; I actually got that style of scale detail by watching Fourth-Star's streams when she was doing scales. Essentially, what she did that I adopted was draw a lot of tiny circular dots of varying sizes / shape (so more oblong at times) until you get a sizable patch. You can then copy-paste it off to the side and draw some more circles connecting it together until you get a large enough patch that you can copy-paste places and set on 'overlay' to get that effect. I shape it to the character's body by using the eraser with a very large, soft tip and shaping it so that it fades very cleanly.
I hope that made sense!

Yup that makes sense ot me! Interesting too, I've watched Fourth-Star do that before I just never really knew HOW. And your's looked a lot more...sharp? Wasn't sure but I can see where the inspiration came from!

Yeah, even though I've taken the original idea from her artwork, I've adapted it to more my own over the time I've borrowed it so we're bound to look different ^^
I think mine might look more sharp because I put my layers on a higher opacity, perhaps?
