Description
This is a short tutorial about the "oily" technique I am using at the moment. (Basic knowledge of Apophysis is required.)Maybee some of you are interestet in.
If there is something not clear feel free to contact me.
I´d be gratefull if you´d leave me a short message when you upload a new picture done with this tutorial.
edit:
it is necessary, that you use a version of apophysis wich includes the "cross" variation like the apophysis version by gygrazok
edit2:
to use this variation you have to use the new apophysis 2.06z+ version made by gygrazok
here is a link to his profile, the link to the download can be found in his journal

I really like the effects that the technique produces! I must have completed a dozen or more pieces and am having a hard time deciding which to post...LOL I hope to have some of them posted by this weekend... Thanks for sharing!

I thought I'd let you know that I just posted the first of my pix using your ''oily'' method. I have another half dozen or so that will go later. I've been having a bit of trouble uploading them today. Error message said the servers were overloaded or something and I got cut off 3 times...maybe tomorrow will be better.

you can get millions of different pictures with that technique. your picture fits in that scheme.

what do you use instead of "cross" now that we are all forced to use apo 2.06?

there is a apo 2.06z+ version from gygrazok out there.
this one includes the cross variation
you can find his profile here [link]
just take a look in the journal, theres a link to the download

if it doesn't... there should be a plugin pack that includes it. ^^

ii am finished the tutoiral and adding color - and i cant seem to make it work. the main oily part will only go one solid color, and the blured spots will only go one other color and only two of them will go any color = the rest go the same color as the oily part... help...

sure, I can tell you how to play with the color settings but you should not do everything exactly like me.
there are some good tutorials out there dealing especially with colors in apo.

yeah - this is the first time i have ever had color problems - i tried adjusting the weight settings, and the symetry of all the triangles to get the colors to make more variety - im sure theres something simple im missing.

Raemed In reply to Bobbi-Styles [2007-07-19 07:50:27 +0000 UTC]
when you create more than just one "bubble" try setting the color weights of the new one to -1.
this should help.

Bobbi-Styles In reply to Raemed [2007-07-21 18:12:42 +0000 UTC]
that actually made it more monochromatic than it was before - the only thing in the fractal that had color was two or three of the bubbles.

Try going into Flame > Calculate Colors... it seems to work for me when I have coloring issues on any fractal.

i actually got some help through the apophysis help fourms. i had to reset all the symetry settings then adjust them again - took a while but worked. thanks for your advice!

No problems... sometimes Flame > Calculate Colors Value works peachy, especially before editing symmetry... and it only takes a second. ^^

then adjust the color settings in the bubbles triangle
this should help

this is nice
I am always looking for a point of interest in my pictures and mostly zoom in a very big ammount.
I think the middle of this technique isn´t that interesting.

Raemed In reply to AngelLover89 [2007-06-27 09:40:27 +0000 UTC]
you need a version of Apophysis like 2.05beta2z+
I don´t know whether cross is included in the "faber-hack" or any other version of Apo or not.
I know, that it is not included in the new 2.06 versions.

I use version 2.05, copyrighted by Peter Zueuk Sdobnov.

if you still want to use 2.06... you can download a plugin pack to make the cross variation appear as an option.

Raemed In reply to AngelLover89 [2007-06-28 07:14:43 +0000 UTC]
maybee the cross variation is not implemented in this verson of apophysis.
try downloading this one

nice shining star
try to change the linear in triangle2 to spherical. there are amazing results, too.

anjaleck In reply to Raemed [2007-06-09 03:08:33 +0000 UTC]
Thank you... I'm still playing around. Haven't gotten anything as pretty as the one you have on the tut though.
I used some sinusoidal in Transform 2 in addition to the spherical. I haven't tried it with linear yet.
Hugs,
Anj

When you say to set "cross" to .007, do you mean the "ex" variation? I don't see any setting called "cross". And thanks for sharing your technique.

If you're using 2.06... you have to have the plugins pack that has the cross variation in it... or else this tut won't work. ;_;
