The Thing, yes! Definitely one of my favorite movies all time.
There also is a 2011 prequel to the original 1982 movie. The story tells what happened on a Norwegian station from where the alien monster thing came and why it was pursued by a helicopter. A must see.

I loved the prequel. it didnt ruined the story and it was pretty cool to see how it all happened.

I must say I really enjoyed the prequel too. All plot elements are well tied to the original. I especially liked the ending with the helicopter, making the two movies one coherent ongoing story. You can literally watch them one after another.
Sadly not all movies get to be played at cinema.
