So, last night I was dreaming about Miyazaki films, and at some point in the middle of the dream, I though, "I wonder what a Miyazaki film would be like if it had aliens in it?" and then this image came into my mind.I decided to just roughly draw it, just to get it out of my head, but it's given me a lot of cool ideas
Also, I re-watched Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away. It was fun.

I really like this! You've been coming up with some really niiice compositions lately.
I especially like that the glowy dude's silhouette is so clean. It's really striking. I think this would be super effective if the brushwork on the girl wasn't so loose - in contrast, it looks kinda...messy? Anyway, I still dig this. c:

Yeah, I kind of wish I could have done a better job on the girl, but I decided that I needed to work on some more important stuff...
But actually, I didn't work on more important stuff (like my ref sheet). Instead I spent all of yesterday and this morning re-watching all the Miyazaki movies we have, plus a couple Disney movies. Then I did a free-write type thing about the story inspired by this image. I really like the concept I've come up with, although right now it's entirely loose.
Also, watching a couple of the Miyazaki movies has gotten me thinking a little bit about Mary-Sues and how people define them. I noticed that some of his main characters could actually be classified as Mary-Sues, and yet his movies are still interesting and fun to watch.
Uh... I'm gonna stop typing now before I accidentally write a novel O.O
