The fork your Aunt Maci was using stabbed against the plate every time she picked up a piece of food. She chewed the macaroni noodle with agitation, her eyes burning a piercing hole through your forehead. You just stared down at your plate, sitting in a huddled position in the chair you were in. One thing you learned from her was to never make eye contact when she was unhappy, it was the wisest thing to do...

"Do you know why you're selfish,hm?"she waited for a reply from you which never came. Maci crossed both of her arms across her chest and you could hear the impatient tapping of her stiletto high-heeled foot against the tiled floor. The {h/c} strands of your hair slowly fell along your shoulders as you lowered your head, wavering at her intense gaze. The clock in the Dining Room ticked rhythmically, the silence increasing by each second that passed. You wanted to leave... to rush to your room and keep yourself confined inside the one place that you knew no one could reach beyond the compacts of the walls. The silence stretched so far you began to wonder if she was still at the table or not. Suddenly, her hand slammed against the table and you gasped, fingers clenching onto the arm you were hugging by your side. "Why did you skip school today!?"she shouted at you.

Your {e/c} eyes grew a bit but you still refused to stare into her eyes, afraid of what you would see within them. The anger was evident in her voice and it didn't take you long to guess that she must have gotten a call from the school while she was at work. Lips parted, you wanted to answer, to speak, to explain to her what had happened....but you were afraid. Afraid of what to say...afraid of what she might do. You slowly closed your mouth again, the tapping of your Aunt's foot coming to a halt. A slow chill ran up your spine as you watched her slender figure quickly push the chair back in your peripheral vision. She stood up, wine glass in hand,"I am so tired of you not answering my questions..."her voice had an edge to it and you stiffened, fingers clenching more into your arm. The air seemed to have gotten colder as if the mere fact of her mood was causing the temperature to change dramatically. Her heels clicked as she made her way around the long, empty table and you knew what her sole destination was.

Her long manicured fingers nails clinked the stem of the glass she was holding, almost seeming to slither her way towards you. Her voice was low this time"Why did you skip school sweetie~"she cooed. You knew she was on the brink of losing it as soon as you heard the fake motherly charm swindling along her question. The fingers clenching your arm trembled as you realized she was right next to you now. Her head inched forward as she leaned her mouth so close to your ear that you could smell the stench of her alcohol-ridden breath. "Answer me...~"she whispered, lifting a hand to gently tuck your {h/c} hair behind one ear, using her nail to barely trace against the softness of your cheek. Your nails digged into the skin of your arm as you felt her lift your chin, watching in horror as her 50 year old face began to twist and curl into a blood-curdling smile....waiting for you to speak.

You said nothing....not falling for her pretend sweet demeanor.

Immediately, she gritted her teeth, throwing her glass of wine against the nearest wall. The glass shattered to pieces, the contents of it spilling on the floor. Her hands banged on the table, your glass of water spilling over as well"ANSWER ME!!!!"she screamed venomously. You jumped in fright, quickly getting as far away from the table as you could, heart racing in your chest. You finally looked up at her crazed eyes that were filled with hate. The same eyes Megan had....

Tears gathered at the rims of your eyes and you formed your hands into fists"Why do you hate me!?"you yelled out with a shaky breath.

Maci stayed where she was, her hands twitching at her sides. "Why~?"she repeated calmly, as if she were having a normal conversation. Her long nails rubbed at her chin and she hummed under her breath"Because you're a mistake {Y/n}.....you're pathetic, weak, and I can't see why anyone would even think to look in your direction~". A tear ran down your cheek as she continued"I'm just raising you for the money, Not because I love you, Not because we share the same blood, and definitely not because I care about you.....You're a waste of time and a sad excuse as a niece"she hissed, licking at her lips with a wide smirk. "That's why....".

You closed your eyes tightly as your body shook at her harsh words, another tear escaping you. "Y-you're.....in...sane..."you whispered, clinging onto the banister where the stairway was. Your heart felt ripped and damaged and you breathed heavily as you slowly made your way up the stairs, your vision blurry from the gathering tears. As soon as you got to your room, your body fell to the floor, fingers gripping onto the carpet as you sobbed. You laid your head on the floor as tears continued to stream down your cheeks, the aching feeling in your chest impossible to ignore anymore. Images of your family flashed behind closed eyelids and you sobbed more, wondering if you were ever going to laugh or smile again. You felt a hand on your shoulder and sat up, opening your eyes a bit.

When you realized it wasn't you Aunt, another hand covered you mouth....muffling your scream.
