Description
He was wide awake when he saw them coming. It was a great flock of macaws, he could hear them quivering its wings from afar. Their feathers were blue as the sky, a color he wasn't pleased to see. When most of the macaws landed in the nearest trees, he grown suspicious and irked. What were those Spix macaws doing? Didn't they know there was already a flock living in this grove? Maybe... maybe they wanted to claim the grove... No, no way! He wouldn't let that happen! He would make them leave, peacefully or by the force!
He frowned upon the remaining Spix macaws that were flying through the treetops. It was indeed a big flock, but he was prepared to fight.
However, there was something he couldn't understand. The Spix macaws' grove was a good one, full of Brazil nuts and there weren't any macaws' tribes near to compete for the food. The only reason to leave such a great place was very obvious to him: their flock was overpopulated, and thus they needed a bigger grove to live.
He grunted in his perch while observing the cerulean birds. Suddenly he felt little footsteps in the branch, but he didn't turn around his head.
"O que está acontecendo, papai?" (what's happening, dad?) asked the chick.
The male leered at the young one.
"Eles não deveriam estar aqui" (they shouldn't be here) replied pointing with his beak at the Spix macaws. His frown was still visible and he felt all his feathers bristly, his talons pressuring the branch "Eles não são bem-vindos" (They aren't welcome).
The chick looked at his father terrified. If he showed such an aggressive behaviour towards those strangers... it could only mean they were truly dangerous. The young one shuddered, and his father noticed it.
"Não tenha medo, Felipe" (Don't be afraid, Felipe). Just like if it was an order, Felipe stood upright in the branch. A little frown began to appear in his feathers, trying to look as menacing as his father besides him.
They won't stay too long. That's for sure Carlos vowed. The Spix macaws wouldn't find peace in that grove. HIS grove.
Soooo How yya doing folks? ;o; I missed so much drawing RIO fanart, I had this sketch since January but I wasn't able to finish it, and to be honest, it isn't really finished. My Photoshop crashed a few days ago, so I couldn't polish some details here and there, let's say this pic is 95% complete, huh?
But, since I don't think my Photoshop is going to get better soon, I will leave this just here for you.
BTW, let me introduce my version of Felipe's father; Carlos, leader of the tribe of Scarlet macaws. Hopefully I shall draw more fanarts explaining the rivalry between the Scarlet macaws and the Spix macaws, so there will be more young!Felipe artworks in the future ^^
But since now I am working on Carlos' character development, tell me, what are your first impressions about him?
PS. If someone of you speaks/understands brazilian portuguese, I would be very grateful if you could check the dialogue written in portuguese.

Great piece of fan fiction, but it doesn't explain why Felipe in Rio 2 had to constantly rhyme in the most obnoxious manner possible

Thank you!
Aaaaaand you are right. Tbh that's like the only trait I absolutely dislike about Felipe... (that, and the "war" aka football match). It doesn't make many sense... ugh :S

I guess the football game was a some of competition for honor, that or like cultures and in fiction they do it as a non-violent means to settle squabbles

Their expressions set the mood for the threat of war. The colours are beautiful too, and not too vivid. It really looks like everything is in the moonlight.
This is a neat story, and the history of the conflict between the Spix and scarlet macaws is an interesting topic to cover. If there is more to follow, this has me hooked.^^ I like Carlos' design, and he seems like a fierce, brave chief.

Thank you so much for your comment!
Yep, it was a bit hard to turn Felipe and Carlos' vivd colours to a night setting (sadly there aren't any night scenes in RIO2 with the Scarlet macaws, so I had to imagine how their colours would look during nighttime).
I am glad you enjoyed the story! I hope I can develop it more from here, since I think the rivalry between the Scarlet and the Spix macaws was a very interesting plot, but the film didn't focus too much on it. I am sorry if the pic looks too dark, now that I see it in my laptop ;o; Maybe it is a bit hard to look at Carlos' design? Aaaand you are right about him ^^

You're welcome.^^ It does not seem too dark to me. The lighting and colours are impressive, and I would imagine it being a bit hard to do that with the macaws' colours. It definitely would be for me and my coloured pencils; I would have to find a way to use a red colour, and to darken it and mute it as well. XD

Wow that's right, I hope I could help you or give you any advice pal, but sadly I am a newbie when it comes to traditional art
I still hope you will find a way to draw night scenes with colored pencils, though ^^

RakPolaris In reply to RehQuQ [2015-07-16 11:50:17 +0000 UTC]
'Cause actually I am more of a canine/feline artist I began to be interested in drawing birds thanks to RIO
Besides, when drawing fanarts etc, I prefer to work with canon characters instead of OC's. However, Carlos may be an exception haha

hehe yeah ^^ i also used to draw dragons and nightfurys (ugh)all the time ^^
i also had watched rio1 before alot of times but it never came into my mind to even try drawing birds or making a oc ^^
well i had a fanoc (a blue macaw) but she was just a ugly copy of jewel ^^
after Rio2 the macaw drawing feafer just hit me hard ^^
i also had found other people wo had made macaw ocs and drew them with roberto or someone and then there i got the idea to also make that too ^^
i looked up in google what kind of macaws are existing and i found this one wonderfully blue and yellow macaw and just fall inlove with it!
thats how Ni'ra came to life and she is now my sona <3 and i think that she is my all time till life end sona ^^
at least i feel like it ^^
uh Carlos is a very sweet name!
show me him <3

Yep, as I said, I prefer to work with canon characters most of the time.
Fan characters are hard to design, and you have to create a backstory for them that blends in the original film/book/series etc... and I am actually pretty lazy to come up with omething original or creative xD
Haha, Blue-and-yellow macaws are my fav since I was a little girl. I always thought the Scarlet macaws and the Red-and-green macaws were too mainstream for me xD
Carlos is the macaw that appears in this picture xD He's the big macaw in the branch, Felipe's father and the leader of the Scarlet macaws' before de events of RIO and RIO2.

RehQuQ In reply to RakPolaris [2015-07-16 15:46:59 +0000 UTC]
Well in my opinion not every char needs a backstory ^^
Or you can also creat first your char and later the back story ^^ thats what i did with nira
But if you dont want a oc then i just roll with it ^^
Oh! I first thought that this was suppose to he phelipes mom ^^
But i still like him <3
Do you do comissions or requests?

RakPolaris In reply to RehQuQ [2015-07-16 23:23:59 +0000 UTC]
Hehe, I have thought about Felipe's mom, but she wouldn't play a mjor role in the plot, because I prefer to focus on Carlos, Felipe, Eduardo and Roberto. So she may appear as a random, nameless character xD Who knows.
Yes, actually I am open for commissions ->sta.sh/01komup9bm28 ^^

Okay, I think the situation here is about to go crazy. An all-out war is very, very imminent, as I see. I bet the tribal fight would be very intense! Especially when it's done at night.

RakPolaris In reply to fish-birb [2015-07-15 02:02:21 +0000 UTC]
We'll attack at the midnight hour... because it's more evil
I don't want to spoil it, but yeah, something's going to happen and its gonna be serious business (nothing like that soccer thingy) ¬¬

fish-birb In reply to RakPolaris [2015-07-15 15:43:28 +0000 UTC]
Yes indeed...dat Nigel quote tho!
And well, I think it also has tactical advantages - attack when the enemy least expect for one. Yep, you're right...that "war" soccer is pretty lame IMO... A real fight will absolutely be better.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
RakPolaris In reply to fish-birb [2015-07-15 16:35:02 +0000 UTC]
I read somewhere that the best moment to attack was before dawn or something like that, because most people expect an attack during the night or during the daytime (?) But I may be wrong
Yep, I know that being a film for kids it couldn't be too violent but... It would have been amazing to see something like the Guardians of Ga'Hoole fighting scenes 8D Considering how big and powerful the macaws' beaks are, they could hurt a lot in a battle.
Hopefully I wil try to explain in the future how the Scarlet and the Spix tribes decided to settle their fights with soccer matches insteads of fights when Felipe became the leader of his tribe and Roberto Eduardo's lieutenant
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
fish-birb In reply to RakPolaris [2015-07-21 02:00:31 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, because it's also more evil...heh, I mean, that's a very tactical way to attack. Attack when, and also where the enemy least expect.
Well, in the Legend of the Guardians movie there's no blood as well, so yeah, maybe it's more epic to add THAT war style onto Rio. But well, I still consider hat unrealistic, as there should be some blood or something like that in that type of battle. But yeah, it's a family movie, so, there's no such things. And yeah, maybe the macaws can also make a wooden battle claws for that...
Well, that would be neat then! Maybe I'll look up for that.
