The waterhole was less idyllic than it first appeared!
I had great fun creating this image of two Thri-Kreen stopping by an oasis to refill their canteens, when they are pounced upon by a Water Drake.
The curving sinuousness of the Drake made for a great framing device, with it's head and tail both pointing to the victim. I reinforced this as the focal point by using other lines of force (primarily in the background) and through the lighting effect.
A full walkthrough of my process - including over a dozen images - can be found on my blog.

I really like the motion in this.
All of your art looks impressive, but I enjoyed the impact of this one more than the others .

That creature is seems to be a combination of a catfish and a dragon with a very pronounced muzzle.

I don't have any idea what a Thri-Kreen is... but they look pretty cool. Armored crab people with multiple arms for multiple armaments? Sounds like a tough opponent, even for a speedy water dragon. The fact that there's of them just makes it even cooler, especially since one of them is a wizard!
This is an amazing piece... you really put a lot of time and effort into it. Your work really payed off.

A fantastic painting. I really like the composition and the sense of action & tension it gives to the piece. The process post you did of this painting on your blog was great too! Thank you for sharing it with us.

The perspective and level of action taking place in this is super gripping, love it! The shadows under the dragon's arm is my favorite part for whatever reason. I think its probably the reflected light that gets me.

I put a subtle glaze around the immediate surroundings, otherwise it is just a simple highlight.
