Description
Balefire LiegeMagic the Gathering; Eventide. Β©Wizards of the Coast
Acrylic, Approx 11" x 7.5".
Original artwork for sale; UKΒ£350.
The restless spirit scours the land searching for another victim to consume within its baleful fire.
I chose a warm red palette to echo, and reinforce, the spectral flames of the spirit. To pull the focus onto the beastie I use the lightest values on him, whilst placing the darkest around him on the rocks. This gives a strong contrast with each other, and against the mid range background.

Awesome, really awesome. How did you get such effective transparency with acrylics?

Thanks. I just built the wash up slowly, and left this area without the darker values, before adding stronger highlights.

Very cool transparency effect on the spirit and it really looks like it's pushing itself through the rock towards the viewer.

Beautiful picture. Shouldn't be a "horror" but still, brilliant. Fire effect looks great on the translucent body.
