Description
EndureMagic the Gathering; Eventide. Β©Wizards of the Coast
Acrylic, Approx 11" x 7.5".
Original artwork for sale; UKΒ£300.
As the black flame washes around the Kithkin they grit their teeth, and with magical ssistance, endure the pain and suffering to fight on....
I wanted the sweep of flame in the foreground, and the background 'splash' to frame the figures. Within that I used the yellow backlighting to help provide depth, and to enable the figures to stand out more clearly.

I've never really understood why the kithkin got such enormous eyes in Shadowmoor.
Creepy little things.

My husband and I just wanted to say that it was artwork like this that got us into Magic the Gathering in the first place. Love it!

Ohhhhh crap I got this card in a booster.
What a waste of good art on a card.
5 mana for a damage prevent? Sucks.

I love how you have done the exspression on there faces and the added drops of sweat really show the intensity of it all! Also the little twinkle from the blades and sheld adds a nice effect!

Thanks. i tried to put alittle bit more into this, but the 'black flame' was a pain in the posterior.

Yet again, an amazing piece. I too notice the abundance of purple in your art, and I love it. It is a very emotional color, simulating passion, royalty, lust and loneliness all at the same time (yet depending on what other colors it is used with; YMMV). The expression on the main entity's face is perfect for a war scene.
Props.

I guess it is a colour I enjoy using. Useful in dropping things back to blue, or popping them out with red.

I've noticed that i can immediately identify your work from the overwhelming presence of purple in all your work. I assume this has to be a conscious decision, so would you mind sharing your thoughts on this?

RalphHorsley In reply to EroticPanda [2008-07-23 08:18:07 +0000 UTC]
I do enjoy using it, guess it works well for shadow, and gives more flexibility and warmth than blue.... haven't thought about it too much consciously...
Thanks
