Having conquered the dungeon the adventurers seeks a spot of R&R in the local town, but all the citizens can see is a sudden influx of wealth and an opportunity to make some of their own.

I relished the chance to do a busy street scene, and opted to for a top down view to give a panoramic sweep, and slight detachment to the viewer. The two far background areas, top left and right, provide focal points with the eye being led between these two by following the course of the adventurers. Who in turn provide focus through the attentions of the crowd.

The good NPCs never miss an opportunity to make some gold.
I used to charge my players more for everything and give them much less for the jewels they wanted to sell, just for the heck of it

indeed.
A bunch of weirdos that come with lots of gold and weird necessities: "I need a black pearl, the claws of an umber hulk and a maiden's hair, do you think I can afford it with these jewels?"...

lol Is that not always the way for the hero? You fight the villian(s), get the goods and save the day and when it comes time for some good ol R&R, the commonfolk say nay sir...curse them, curse them all

Well done sir, another fine piece indeed ^_^

I believe I will have to revise my last statement, in which I said that you had (then) created my favourite piece of yours. This is just mind-blowing. Not just that your layout works perfectly and the piece is executed flawlessly, but you seem to have tapped directly into the DnD world and channeled it and the emotions that come with it into this artwork. I can't find proper words for it but this is like it sprang from my own roleplaying imagination. I'm practically thankful for you being on DA.

Now, enough of this. I wouldn't want to embarrass either of us.

How does the process of illustrations for Wizards work? Do they tell you basically what they want? Or do they tell you what's on the page where they are placing the illustration and ask you to make an image that's relevant? Do they also dictate the size (proportionally) of such an image? And do they prefer traditional art over digital?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RalphHorsley In reply to Trish2 [2008-06-12 17:03:21 +0000 UTC]

They tell me what they want, namely dimensions, and content, - but there is usually some room for interpretation, and I decide the composition. The have no prefernce of Trad Vs Digital, but I always provided digital files.

Thanks.

I like this kind of scene - it's got an air of comedy about it, with the small-towners coming out to play with the adventuring party. Reminds me of a similar scene from Order Of The Stick. The characters are very recognisable. nice work
