Description
RunefangBlack Library novel cover; Β©Games Workshop
Acrylic, Approx 13" x 20".
Original artwork SOLD.
The mythical sword Runefang is capable of destroying all the enemies of the Empire... and it will need to!
This was painted a little while ago, around the same time as Curse of the Necrarch, but I had failed to post it sooner
The composition was dictated to me, but I had fun with portraying the undead, and mass battle scene. I chose a lighter patch of sky and some glint on the blade to add focus to the tip, as I knew the trade dress was going to fall across the middle.
Here it is with the trade dress:

Hi,
Hmm, off the top of my head I can't remember which province the Empire troops are from, but I remember their uniforms are grey. The setting of the picture itself is Sylvania.

Grey? I can`t think of one either, the closest I could think of are Ostland`s B&W and Nuln`s Black, perhap Hochland?
Anyhow, the BlackLib people just gotta have the sword at the position did`t they?
They ruined something that could be result in a stunning image.
I don`t think that people would have realised that it`s a runefang if the title didn`t said so though. Considering how generic it is even for one of the strongest weapon of the Warhammer world.

I checked - Weisenland.
Yea, if I'd had more freedom I'd have done something different...

You know, it just makes me think of a stained glass window, or that one huge illustration in a dusty old tome, recounting some long forgotten, gloriously epic battle. It's awesome.

Very cool perspective on this one. Makes it easier to relate to the painting.
It's good that you chose to put more emphasis on the undead instead of just doing a split in the middle painting with empire on the left and undead in the right.
I'm just sadly reminded of the fact that I took a serious beating with my undead in Warhammer just yesterday.
Ah well, you can't win every time.

Nice. It's a shame the trade dress covers up those lovely flying banshee-warrior things in the background, though.
