The Dungeons & Dragons supplement Rules Compendium has just been released, and this was one of my pieces from the book. Details of which can be found here: [link]
Taunting Memory was great fun as for once it depicts a group of characters socialising after the fight. Usually I find myself showing a combat in progress, but this time we get to see how the Dark Elf behaved when faced with a Beholder - although I also like the fact you could interpret this as a prophecy of events yet to happen - either way he doesn't look too happy about the telling.
The viewers first attention is drawn to the Dark Elf by the strong contrast of his skin and hair. Something further reinforced by his clear profile and the framing element of the light coloured picture on the wall behind him. The row of heads helps keep our attention in the upper part of the picture, whilst various lines, the Elven staff, Dark Elf's sword and scroll case, Dwarf's arm and roof beams, help draw the eye towards the conjured memory. This in turn is more saturated than the surrounding elements, again, hopefully, getting our attention.

ThatΒ΄s probably the D&D-style facebook, I can totally imagine the dark elf saying "Please just stop showing people that video damn, I wasn't running! it was just a tactical retreat!"

The amount of time and effort you must put into detailing these paintings must be astounding. I adore the amount of detail in all your paintings and this is no exception! Another fantastic piece <3

Actually my first attention was absolutely drawn to the Beholder's eyes, then to the green thing (spell?) in front of her, THEN to the dark elf
GREAT piece here

The expression on the dwarf's face leads me to believe he's trying to convince his friend that it's just the ramblings of some mage.

Too be fair to the dark elf, it's a beholder.
"It's a solo monster now..."
Which is not saying a lot seeing as how if a DM couldn't give a party of adventures a run for their money with a Beholder in 3.5 then that party should probably find a more evil sandbox to play in.
Secondly, this is as everyone has been saying amazing

I mustn't be normal: the first thing I looked was the desperate face of the inkeeper^^
Next i looked at the beautiful green lady, and then, finally, to the dark elf and his companion. And then, I re-looked at everything, and I was like: " OMG, so much details !"
It's outstanding ! I looove the green lady, with all the plants on her dress ! Very great picture !

No not at all. i try to make plans, but you were focused in the right area. Where all the narrative is.
Thanks
