The Dungeons & Dragons supplement Rules Compendium has just been released, and this was one of my pieces from the book. Details of which can be found here: [link]
Taunting Memory was great fun as for once it depicts a group of characters socialising after the fight. Usually I find myself showing a combat in progress, but this time we get to see how the Dark Elf behaved when faced with a Beholder - although I also like the fact you could interpret this as a prophecy of events yet to happen - either way he doesn't look too happy about the telling.
The viewers first attention is drawn to the Dark Elf by the strong contrast of his skin and hair. Something further reinforced by his clear profile and the framing element of the light coloured picture on the wall behind him. The row of heads helps keep our attention in the upper part of the picture, whilst various lines, the Elven staff, Dark Elf's sword and scroll case, Dwarf's arm and roof beams, help draw the eye towards the conjured memory. This in turn is more saturated than the surrounding elements, again, hopefully, getting our attention.

Isn't he a little tall for a Dwarf? I had him pegged as just a bearded human.
Thanks for including your thoughts into the composition! That kind of inside, pre-production detail is invaluable.

There is so much good detail in this and none of it overpowers the actions happening between the characters. Great work!!

One look at this as a thumbnail screamed D&D for me... XD But I really like it. Honestly, I find myself paying my attention to the dwarf the most, just because of how detailed his face is. The fact this all acyilic makes me even more impressed.
It's been a long time since I last played D&D--I was 13, so it's been 5 years. Maybe this is an omen about how things will turn out, when I start playing again. XD

My initial thought was "Oh, that's nice, good photoshop work, detailing is well done, etc."
Then I saw that it was acrylic on canvas, and I was so proud of, and happy for you and for the fact that traditional art is not lost, and it's people like you who make it live.
The detailing is fantastic for the size of the canvas, the whole painting is fantastic just by itself. The composition is fun to look at and the colors made me smile.
Great work.

Wonderfully done.
It's sad, I gave up on D&D when the 4th edition came out, but my heart just wans't into it anymore.
And the 4th edition just sealed it shut.

I really like it.
Wizards of the Coast has recently gotten quite... Derivative? In their rulebook artwork. This is good enough that I wouldn't have initially assumed it was for a rules supplement.
I appreciate your description of the techniques used in the art as well. It's good to know how much thought goes into pieces such as these.

How do I nominate for a daily dev? This needs to be recognized as the masterpiece that it is.

Erm, not entirely sure - you need to contact one of the administrators for traditional art... good luck and thanks

the druid is more of the commander of the scene here with the what seems to be more lighting and detail.
