Both their statements are true. Sure, her drawing sucks and that's an objective fact, but it is also true that with practice everyone can get better. However, I'd say that different people benefit from different types of honesty. Some people will use harsh criticism as a way to improve, while it might just crush others. Honesty is really damn hard to grasp efficiently.
