Description Kind of a counter-stamp to this: [link]

Let's face it: there's a lot stupider things to devote your whole life to than God, just look at 90% of deviantART. At least the God-devout are focused on something other/better/more than just themselves.

Well, the few who are doing it right, anyway.

I devote my life to anime- but I have a good reason. I want to become an anime animator. I want to learn how to draw many different anime styles. So by studying the anime, I can learn how to draw it better. Which would also be my self satisfaction.
I also devote my life to helping the ones that needed.
My brother devotes his life to videogames because he wants to create one.
Some people devote there life to deviantart because it's there job. They sell art work here, they make the money, you get the point. I don't get what's so wrong for devoting your life to something you love and/or you want to do.
I find devoting your life to your fetish, fandom, sex and getting popular stupid.
Though that's just my opinion.

Dedicating your entire life to happiness is sad and pathetic.

Because that's the reason anyone choose to dedicate their life to anything, it makes them happy.

And if that's not the reason it is not dedication.

There are plenty of people who dedicate their whole lives to things that don't make them happy. That's what addictions are.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

madoke In reply to GreenwavesInactive [2014-06-18 17:18:19 +0000 UTC]

Addictions don't make people happy.  In fact, addicts hurt themselves in the process and many want to stop but don't know how.

Also, hobby ≠ dedicating your whole life to something. -_-

GreenwavesInactive In reply to madoke [2014-06-18 18:17:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes...obviously. But what this stamp is about is people who do dedicate their whole lives to something, not about hobbies, so I have no idea what you're going on about.

examples?  i don't know anyone who dedicates their entire lives to anime, a fandom, etc.

eh, as long as they're happy, I'm ok with it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GreenwavesInactive In reply to madoke [2014-06-18 21:12:52 +0000 UTC]

Why do I need to give an example? This stamp is to people who dedicate their entire lives to something. If you don't know anyone who does that, then this does not apply to them so they needn't concern themselves with this statement. At all.

And if anyone is literally dedicating their lives to something not real, they're not going to really be happy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

madoke In reply to GreenwavesInactive [2014-06-18 23:01:08 +0000 UTC]

No, it's not for 'those unnamed people who may-or-may-not-exist.'  After reading the description, I'm pretty sure it's for OP to feel superior over said stamp maker for having a religion. I strongly disagree with both stamps, and think they're quite petty and judgmental.

Not real, you say?  That is subjective, as one could say the same thing about god.  I don't think you have the power to judge what makes an individual truly happy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GreenwavesInactive In reply to madoke [2014-06-18 23:17:42 +0000 UTC]

Okay, since you wanted an example so bad, here you go. I was so obsessed with a TV show when I was in high school that I skipped all my classes to watch it. I barely ate or slept because all I wanted to do was watch that show. I nearly failed out of high school and wasted away. I had no friends and entered a major depression. I became so detached from reality that I almost committed suicide to escape it. My parents finally had to step in and forbid me from ever watching the show again.

While I was devastated at first, I was finally able to pick up my life. I got real hobbies such as working with computer programming and dancing and branched out my interests a bit more. I found people that liked similar things that I did and was able to connect with them. I was much happier after I let go of something that was consuming my life.

Some people need a wake up call like this before they let something completely consume their life. Yes, these people do exist. I was one of them. So please quit taking offense to this when you clearly have no clue what you're talking about. You've obviously never been there, and I'm happy for you. But since you've never been there, this stamp does not apply to you. It applies to people like I was who need a bit of a wake up call so they can get into the real world and find things that will make them truly happy.

madoke In reply to GreenwavesInactive [2014-06-18 23:42:32 +0000 UTC]

To answer your question, i have been there, no need to be condescending.  I have aspergers, and I have hobbies, yet I tend to get unhealthy fixations on things.  A few years ago, I had an unhealthy obsession with deviantart.  I just recently came back.  I would get bored after spending all day on faving pictures, and I would look at stamps/comments.  I stayed up until the late hours night after night.  I sought out things that would further my anxiety/ self-loathing.  My self-esteem got so low that I thought of harming myself.  None of these made me happy, they made me angry and hurt.

It's not getting any better either, as my condition has taken other forms.   As of now, I cannot stop organizing my photos on my phone.  I have more than 5000 photos.  It doesn't make me happy, I don't even know why I do it, but it's an addiction.

I suppose It's how OP worded the stamp, but it seems a bit insensitive, as this could easily be taken as an attack on a hobby.  I don't think he should be comparing god to an addiction, if that was what he was going for.

Saying someone needs to get a 'reality check' is easier said than done.  I have been going to therapy for years, and I'm still depressed as fuck, severely anxious, etc.

GreenwavesInactive In reply to madoke [2014-06-19 00:04:10 +0000 UTC]

Okay, if you know it happens, then why did you deny that it happens? Also, what are you trying to accomplish with this conversation? If you're upset at the creator of the stamp, why are you complaining about it to me? I'm not the one who made it, I merely identify with it. It's really none of my business what anyone else does, so I have no need to bother with it.

If you actually have something you're trying to accomplish by throwing all of this at me, please let me know so I can address that, because I'm not at all sure where you're going with all of this. If you're just looking for an argument, then I'm done, because I can't even understand what point you're trying to argue.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

madoke In reply to GreenwavesInactive [2014-06-19 00:55:43 +0000 UTC]

Well, if you're gonna be condescending and say that I've never had to deal with any of this stuff, and pour passive-aggressive "I'm happy for you.: statements on me, you should expect a reply.

I didn't say people didn't get addictions.  Addictions ≠ dedicating your life to something/someone you love.  By that logic, God is an addiction, and that makes zero sense.

Its not really in your power to judge someone for dedicating their life to what makes them happy.  Some of my friends are planning on getting a job based around their interests, and that's fine.  I understand if you interpreted it a different way than me, but w/e.

GreenwavesInactive In reply to madoke [2014-06-19 01:16:00 +0000 UTC]

You came to me saying "hobby =/= dedicating your life to something" and claimed that you "don't know anyone who dedicates their entire lives to anime, a fandom, etc." You stated yourself that you didn't know anyone like that, so I assumed that you didn't know anyone like that. I'm sorry if I came across as condescending, but so did you, so I was annoyed. Clearly, we're viewing this with completely different views of what "dedicating your entire life to something" means. I was seeing it as someone who lets something completely consume their lives, you were seeing it as someone making something a priority in their life. Those are very different things, but both need to be addressed. If you had come to me in a polite manner, I would have responded politely. As it was, you came across as rude. You're the one who came to me, so it's up to you to set the tone. The one you set was confrontational, so I acted confrontational.

Well, of course I support people getting jobs based around their interests. I'm getting a job based around mine, after all. That's totally normal. What isn't normal is letting something consume your life to the point that nothing else matters to you. That's all I was arguing against.

In any case, I apologize if you didn't intend to sound confrontational. You just came at me out of nowhere and it really irked me.

madoke In reply to GreenwavesInactive [2014-06-19 01:35:17 +0000 UTC]

I apologize if it sounded that way.  I really can't communicate well, I have never been able to do anything well socially.

I just came across this stamp a few days ago, and I found a lot of hateful stamps in OP's gallery, so naturally I responded to them all in one day, I didn't mean to catch anyone off guard.  Sorry for the misunderstanding.,,

I think I'll stick to tumblr, dA isn't exactly good for me ^.^

GreenwavesInactive In reply to madoke [2014-06-19 03:09:56 +0000 UTC]

That's alright. I'm sorry I misunderstood what you were trying to say.

I suppose if there's a lot of hateful stamps in their gallery, they probably meant it in the way you thought. I interpreted it an entirely different way. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, too. I wasn't trying to say people shouldn't live life the way they want to. I actually feel quite the opposite. I think people should do whatever makes them feel happy. I just know what it's like when people let things consume them, so I was identifying with that rather than what was really intended. I appreciate you taking the time to sort this out.

I know the feeling. I had a similar experience with YouTube. I actually only recently started using tumblr, and I've really enjoyed it so far. Anyway, I'd definitely recommend sticking with the site you feel comfortable with. No reason to put up with things that just make you upset.

Anyway, dedicating your life to God means dedicating your life to improve others. So, what's so bad about that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ACPawz In reply to Enemom [2013-11-24 00:09:54 +0000 UTC]

Sure, there are people who do that for good, but again, it usually isn't and plus, God did not invent "good", so it definitely isn't necessary to perform good.
Why do you want to argue with people, anyway? I'm just telling the truth. I don't feel like using strict logic right now because I already know the majority of Christians are hateful, and not all of them are. Seriously, it's useless arguing with you because you live in your own world, where only you're right, even when you aren't.

Enemom In reply to ACPawz [2013-11-24 00:26:42 +0000 UTC]

"Majority of Christians are hateful"

No. We are taught not to hate anyone. Haven't you ever heard of "love thy neighbor?"

Also. I do realize I'm a person who comes on as a bastard but really, I guess I was just ticked off about the fact you took the bible out of context. I'll admit not every atheist is evil (my best friend on here is one and she's super nice) but what bugged me is that you think Christians aren't as nice or moral as atheists. Which isn't true.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ACPawz In reply to Enemom [2013-11-24 00:37:12 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I have heard of it. And I think that's actually something everyone should do, but sadly, a huge amount of Christians I know don't. A much higher percent of atheists I know follow that, actually. In fact, in honors biology (which contained about 40% atheist students, as compared to the 7% that go to my school) last year, this atheist girl was complaining about how Christians tried to shove their religion down her throat, and this Christian dude agreed, saying "we should both stop hating on each other and just get along", so yeah, I let him know I approved
I'm not sure if it's true overall, but the fact is, it most definitely isn't from what I've seen so far.

GreenwavesInactive In reply to Pandaception-Photos [2014-02-19 00:25:34 +0000 UTC]

Not really. The stamp was made as a backlash to another stamp. In my opinion, if someone thinks that dedicating your life to a God you truly do believe in is pathetic, then dedicating your life to all those other things is also certainly pathetic. Seems to me like this person was more trying to make the statement that she can dedicate her life to what's important to her if all these people can dedicate their lives to, say, video games.
