Description I noticed a lot, and I mean a LOOOOT, of artists manually filling in their flat colors by hand, carefully and painstakingly tracing along the linework with a tiny brush, when there's a much faster way to do it.

This is the method I've been using for years, and it's served me well. This should save you a lot of time and avoid unnecessary busy work on your art.

A lot of artists reel at the idea of using the Magic Wand Tool (it doesn't worrrrk, it gives you ugly white borders!) and they say you have to trace your lines with the lasso tool by hand. But my method takes that into account with the pixel expansion step. It's not perfect - it usually misses corners, like tips of hair. But those can be fixed in mere minutes compared to spending hours tracing along your lines. Trust me, this is a LOT quicker and it will let you get to the fun part of coloring sooner.

This method shown with Photoshop, but it can be done in PaintTool SAI as well. The terminology used is slightly different, but the idea is the same.

I used a similar method like this on GIMP and it helped my coloring a lot! Now flat colors take me only minutes instead of hours, thank you so much! ^^

I just tried out this method, and holy shit, this really is way easier and faster! I never would've thought the wand tool could actually be useful.
