For me, the most wonderful evil character of them all.

I agree! And probably one of the most beautiful short novel by Lovecraft.

He sits still, amongst his achievements, as if he were Newton or Poincare, but he is a man prepared to steal the life from under a soul. You must have been inspired to do this as this is exquisite. I steal myself - in the third Ghastly Doings his scion will appear. I will have this story ready for Christmas. I am a poor wretch of a writer to do it but the Curwen line is a gift to literature. I only hope that I can do justice to the name.
When I thought about immortal characters and their enemies I thought of Curwen and the other revenant chymists, hungry for immortality and the continuation of their line, believing that what they do is for good. People who think they are doing good are often the most evil of all...

Yes, this portrait was revealed when paint was removed from the wall near the fireplace and also other items of interest turned up in a carefully concealed cupboard nearby.
Later, about the time Curwen was raised from the dead by his descendant Charles Dexter Ward, this portrait mysteriously flaked, peeled and crumbled off the wall into blue dust on the floor !

What a good work! So many details, even tome of Borellus on his table.
Now I can imagine how he looked.

This eerie feeling... that something... innately wrong resides in this painting... something... evil

Wow! It's amazing! It looks like a real 18th century American portrait! (I'm reminded of something like the famous full-body George Washington portrait... If it were done in black-and-white pencil)
I also love that very New-England-y port view outside the window!

Excellent work. Your picture of the wicked Mr Curwen is exactly as I had imagined him.

Thank you so much!!
I have read at least twice the whole story and several times the description of the picture 'cause I wanted something really faithful to the text.
I really hope you enjoy my effort! ^^

Hey, you even remembered to draw in the mark above his right eye!
I'm mid-way through drawing sketches of several of the villains from the Case of Charles Dexter Ward. I don't know about you, but I had a very tough time trying to find out what the heck an Albemarle wig was or what a Phaleron jug looks like. (Curwen's wig in the painting and the "Materia" jugs holding the Saltes of the deceased.) Judging by what little I've found on the exact look of historical hairstyles and pottery styles which Lovecraft mentions by name in the story, I'm really impressed with what you decided upon for your portrait of Joseph Curwen.

Thanks I'm afraid I'm more some one who apreciates art than some one who produces it.
