Description
Unique mammatus storm clouds over western Oklahoma. These clouds and some 1 and 1/4 inch hail was about all we got on this day of chasing since we were trying to stay farther south to get to the eclipse on the 20th.
May 19, 2012.

Mammatus, also called mammory clouds, are a very bad sign at times, because it's usually the 2nd sign of a tornado. The first being hail.

Sucks, man. We've been having some really terrible storms/tornado drops here in Mississippi this year as well. We've been lucky where I live, but I can't say the same for lots of other places... I never want to see these clouds unless I'm far away from the center because I love cloud formations and I do enjoy a storm here and there. I'm intrigued by weather, but also respect it's power.

yeah it does suck, but you just gotta move on, and i agree that you have to respect the immense power and potential of any storm. btw, the reason why i put the "...." for 2013 is cause i spotted these same cloud formations slightly earlier than the formation of that unfortunate day exactly a year later than this picture. Β crazy eh...also thanks for pointing out to others that these type of clouds are sometimes a sign to be forewarned of the possibility of a tornado. amazing pic & gallery btw
