Same here, I used to keep red eared terrapins as pets when I was a kid so definitely like my turtles.

I did the very same thing many many years ago- this one was trying to cross the road running across one of the big dams in Ohio. I stopped my car and parked it diagonally to block both lanes of traffic while I tried very gingerly to pick that beauty up and move him over and the road to safety...everyone saw what I was doing and some even got out to help me see to his/her safety...it was a wonderful experience really and I agree with you my friend- they are fantastic looking creatures! You would do an amazing sculpt of one!

That is so cool. I told my wife about your story.
More people need to stand up for animals rights.
It just takes a few people to start a great idea.

It was a memorable experience...I just don't see how any one can walk away from things like that without helping- it is almost impossible for me not to do something when I see things like this...I saved a little box turtle five years ago who was hauling it right towards this huge industrial commercial mower- something about the vibrations...? Any way, turtles are NOT slow! That little booger was booking it! I saved him though and we had to relocate him/her... I saved one just last year at my mother-in-laws place from an overly curious dog...took the poor thing down to the creek that it meant to try to get to and it scurried off once it realized it was safe. I hadn't actually realized until just now how many turtles I've had encounters with and that all involved me rescuing them!

But yes, just a little from each person would go so far to changing so much for the better... The father of a good friend and fellow artist was talking to me and somehow we got on this very subject and he said he could tell a lot about a person by how that person treated people and creatures that were weaker or more vulnerable than they were...he said that really told him all he needed to know about a person. I have never forgotten that...

That's so true. My Dad has a good quote too...'Give a little man a little power and he'll show you how little he can be. (I don't think it was his quote originally but I really like it.)
