Description
Mah new take on our beloved meg. Wanted to stay away from the typical giant great white shark portrayal and stick to a body shape that is still somewhat plausible... Let me know what you think :/Related content

As you said, it is nice to see a Megaldon that isn't a giant Great White. I would've loved to see an accurate one but it'll likely never happen.

Like the flat headed take on the design. Very much like a Whale Shark.

That's an interesting one, I'll tell you.I don't know much about fish biomechanics, bus it seems plausible here.

Do you know there's a new movie on that thematic coming out ? Literally called "The Meg"

even though the great white like meg is the most accurate this is a cool design too

To go off of Monty, they actually aren't closely related to the great white. I did some research a bit ago on that since I was kinda tired of just seeing giant great whites. I forget who the are closer to though.

even though they are not closely related to great whites they are still a lamnid shark so if we just upscale a lamnid shark and make it as robust as a megalodon it would still to us look like a big great white in physique

Actually, we're finding out it might not be accurate since the two aren't closely related.

megalodon and otodontids are closer to lamnids than to any other lamniforme group

um, trey got a lot of stuff wrong
not very good since the paper he has given me proposed the short nose due to overall robustness of an animal we have only teeth and centrum
ive seen it when it was first posted and am not convinced
the barnacle thing is also wrong because even the largest of modern day sharks dont have them and they are in the size range of being viable barnacle footholds in terms of size and speed but due to their dermal denticles they are somewhat resistant to skin parasites except for copepods

I’d say the snout needs to be pointed (since that’s a lamniform feature is general, not just a GWS feature).
But the body looks nice.

Psst! I think you meant "Lamnidae"? Since "Lamniform" includes the Bull Shark and Basking Shark.

I meant Lamniform (Megalodon was a lamniform but not a lamnid)

I didn't SAY that Megalodon is a Lamnidae (though Lamnidae, Cretoxyrhinidae and Otodontidae might be close Relatives), I was saying that Lamnidae have pointed snots (and flukes intended for speedy pursuits), unlike some of the OTHER lamniforms.

Sand-tigers have pointed snouts, so do goblin sharks to an extent, so do threshers.

I was talking about pointed from the UNDERSIDE of the nose. You've seen underneath the Sand-Tigers, right? Rounded-out when you see the under-side of their snouts.
Oh, and the TAILS? I'm pretty sure the tails of Sand-Tigers, Thrashers and Goblin Sharks are CRUISERS, NOT meant for Speed.

I’m not talking about the tails.
Sand tigers have pointed snouts from any angle..,

Dr-XIII In reply to acepredator [2018-04-14 18:20:48 +0000 UTC]
SLIGHTLY pointed, but not quiet as pointed as a lamnid.
Also, in terms of telling a Lamnidae from any OTHER Lamniforms, I was talking about tails. That's why I said that Lamnidae, Cretoxyrhinidae and Otodontidae could be close Relatives. Their tails are built for Rapid Pursuit.

I agree. Plus, the pointed snout would allow the Megalodon to breach faster when hunting whales from below.

acepredator In reply to Dr-XIII [2018-04-13 01:52:54 +0000 UTC]
Breaching from directly below is actually a learned behaviour in GWS, and used almost entirely off South Africa (due to seal colonies being in close proximity to deepwater channels that allow for cover).
Most of the time GWS hunts are less dramatic, more diagonal attacks followed by a rapid pursuit if the prey escapes the initial blow. (Though the Atlantic population will often chase grey seals horizontally in shallow water)

Is it more of an observation thing or trial and error? I'm assuming it's the latter.
