^___^ I think I finally found my favorite way to texture skin. Though...I sharpened it a little too much. :/I swear all I get are Kyo commissions. lol

I adore your details for skin~ To be completely honest, I think this face looks the most like Kyo out of most of your others(Out of Breath was one I think was very spot on, even with his hair quality being one of the best I've seen of him from you), but I think thats only because this is a front shot. For some reason, Kyo, Kaoru, and a few others look very different from the side than the front, to me.
I wish I could get the rest of what I need for a commission. I really would like a sexy Kakihara Masa commission XDD

I think I'd probably agree with you. This does look a bit more like Kyo than what I've done before. I think one thing that helped is that I was able to make a kind of simple sculpt of his face in zbrush (still needs ALOT of work though) and I can use it as reference for angles that there are no pictures of. It was helpful because at certain angles I can't find good reference photos and end up "winging it" for the majority of the picture, which is why I think that my older ones weren't quite as accurate.

Nuuuu, I like the sharpness, often times I think your work is a little too soft but it's a personal choice thing isn't it?
Ahhh, you are so amazing at painting faces, so much glorious detail! And facial hair and eyebrows particularly, it's the little things that make it so much above average.
Dem clothes though, they let you down hun, even scooshing a little bit of texture on and shading a little more would make them heaps better.

I know. Clothes are a weak point of mine. I can't seem to figure out folds, no matter how many tutorials/pictures I look at and painting them is like pulling teeth. I'm trying to do them more often so I can get better.

Awh, I know the feeling, I want to pull my own eyes out everytime I draw hair, I just can't do the light and dark and all the colours... O___O

lol, I don't think you guys do mind. But drawing just one person over and over can get really tedious. When I'm taking commissions I rarely have time to do paintings for myself. I wish people would request other jrockers that I'd love to do. Anyone from D'espairsRay, XJapan, Mucc, about a thousand other bands...lol but they don't. I either get requests for Kyo, Kaoru or jrockers I'm not fans of. -_-

That's exactly it. It's not that I don't like drawing Kyo. Obviously I don't. It's just that it feels so repetitive, like I'm doing the same thing over and over. I feel like it's all I'll ever be known for... Porn and Kyo. :/ Not that I'm not fond of either. ^^

The skin on his face looks really good - I don't think you sharpened it too much, counting out the Damned-tattoo which looks a little too rough now. I still love the way you do eyes... and gods, that beard. I want to push my fingers into it.

Honestly I always hate doing the Damned tattoo because the shading on it is very pencil-like and textured, but also softish and for some stupid reason it's always tricky for me to do. This time I used a pencil brush to try and get the same texture, but it didn't quite work the way I wanted. The beard I decided to do strand by strand this time. I usually use a hair brush for facial hair, but I've decided recently that I rely too much on brushes and need to paint things line by line for some things. It just looks better.

You know... that's actually true. I've never thought about the texture it's done in, but that's just about right. I'm happy my characters don't have necks. D:
Brushes scare me immensely for that reason - I've learned to do hair pretty well without, and I know that if I picked up a brush I really liked (as I almost fell for a fur brush lately), my skill would die immediately because I'd stop doing it manually and instead just brushing it in. I think that at some point, when I'm better, I'll try out brushes to improve the work, but a part of me keeps screaming that Da Vinci didn't use modified brushes for textures, and therefore I'm cheating if I do. Relevant.

For some things brushes are neccessary. Skin texture is a royal bitch without one, but I've learned to add discrepancies in light/texture by hand after I've used a texture brush. As far as hair and stuff, I do it by hand now. It looks so much better. I wish I could paint on canvas like he could. unf.

Exactly. ;O; When they decide to invent a canvas with an undo capability I'll be all over it.
When you get to that point I'll send you mine. They're all setup and easy to use.

Technically I already have. All the pics of Noelle and Julien can be classified as vampire pics since that's what they are, but as for a typical vampire, I don't know. Maybe one day.
