Looks great! The only bit if advice I can offer is that when the "foot" touches the ground it's sliding back instead of fully pushing the rest of the mech forward. Assuming this is a big, heavy machine, there should be a lot more weight here. Right now the animation makes it look like it's running underwater or in a very low gravity area.

decent start, but there's very little sense of weight - like it's running on some very low gravity planet and it's mostly floating.

When you plant the ball of the foot, it shouldn't move from the ground - you've got yours sliding back. It also comes up too soon. To improve the sense of weight, plant the foot down, heel first, flatten the whole foot, and then lock the ball of the foot in place and leave it there for a few frames. Bend the knee more, bring down the whole body with each step. This is a big heavy machine and it should have more impact with each step, even if it is able to run.

The upper 'body' should probably have a big loaping up and down motion. Fast down to the left, up, fast down to the right, up, and so on.

Good start though

Of course I know nothing about this style of art... however, it seems to me that what you've done here would take a substantial amount of time and effort... so kudos!

brockengespenst [2012-03-17 06:19:52 +0000 UTC]

I like it but it seems when it takes a step, the foot slides backward on the ground so it looks more like it is falling forward than running. Otherwise the physics seems very natural. It's a cool designed mech!

Artmeggadon [2012-03-15 19:05:08 +0000 UTC]

Just a thought, but the leg moving forward should keep it's bend longer, if you're going for an accurate running animation. And of course, upon landing, it would be more bent than it is currently, which would probably look better. Just a thought.

Great but the robot seems to be sliding (unless that is intentional given that it seems to be hanging).

Nice work!

How hard is it to use sketchyphysics? I've always thought about trying it.....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

raskayu77 In reply to ltla9000311 [2012-03-09 21:16:11 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

I've never worked with any other 3d software, so I can't compare. But as far as I know, it's not easy. But The last week I have seen some videos about a new plugin for sketchup called 'SimFonIA Character Animation'. It looks like to be able to get closer results to other 3d animation software than sketchyphysics

GunFox [2012-03-01 14:25:10 +0000 UTC]

If I may add to what has already been said, the animation seems too light in it's steps, not only should the legs show some shock with the impact but the whole body should react, leaning to each side with each stride.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

raskayu77 In reply to GunFox [2012-03-09 21:24:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for your advice Hope to fix that for next updates

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Artmeggadon [2012-03-01 14:07:47 +0000 UTC]

Needs more of an impact "shock" on the legs. The heavy body should be actually PUSHING on the legs, and making them bend when it steps.

raskayu77 In reply to Artmeggadon [2012-03-09 21:22:35 +0000 UTC]

I know. I hope to be able to fix things like that after finishing the modeling

this is very impressive, i once made a similar attempt but without the ability to control multiple servos at once i found it very...difficult...
