Description Featured in Miincdesign's May Feature .

Back in February, ThoughtWeaver put 2D blooms in a nebula fractal , and I was fascinated by the idea.  Of course, I then set out to try to do it myself.

This was done by the end of February, but I assumed that by the time I submitted it, it would probably already be springtime.  However, even I didn't anticipate how far behind I would be on submissions and renders!

An Apophysis 7x fractal.  As with all my fractals, I highly recommend you zoom in for the best viewing experience.

Quite frankly: I think you executed this better than I did. Your blooms are beautifully formed among the clouds of the nebula and integrate the colors of the background excellently. Nice job!

Thank you very much!  I'm glad you like it!

The reason the colors integrate is the fact that the nebula is the coloring in the blooms.  After a lot of experimentation, I think I've found a way to reproduce these effects reliably:

1. Create your nebula.
2. Begin the blooms.  Don't bother with a blur transform: make a standard 2D bloom linear/spherical/cross transform.  However, when you increase its size and rotate it, apply these modifications to the post-transform instead of the normal one (I'm not sure why, but this improves the results demonstrably).
3. Add a linked transform with julian = roughly 0.2 to 0.4 and power = -2, like a smaller version of the final transform in a 2D bloom.
4. Here's where it gets interesting: go to Xaos.  Give the linear/spherical/cross transform a high weight to itself (I've used anywhere from 30-100 depending on the other params, or it could vary even more widely).  This creates the more central layers of petals.
5. Go to the julian transform's Xaos and don't send it to all of your linear transforms, or you'll have a lot of flowers.

Now you can go to the linear/spherical/cross transform and resize it, rotate it, add distortions like waves2 or epispiral and anything you like!
