Description
I know I said I'd take a break, and I will, but I have to see this experiment to its end. Uploaded this image under another deviantname. Its an awarded shot (staff choice on www.usefilm.com). After 48 hours, it has 15 views on DA. I suspected devART to be unwelcoming to newcomers, but I didnt know it was that bad! Thank God I'm popularRant: to the anal schmuck that keeps reporting my 'policy violation>wrong section' because I edit my photos, take a look at this before hitting that botton: [link] (violently manipulated image, uploaded to the photography section and selected as DD). It takes a hell of lot more effort/manipulation to create such an image, than what I've done here. The blurring of the water was caught in camera, I only applied a simple texture layer in photoshop, something that could easily be done traditionally by thrashing the negative/print.

I know what you mean about dA being unwelcoming to newcomers. Other than a few rare exceptions, most people won't give my photographs the time of day. I'm lucky if I see more than 10 views on anything, period.
This is an amazing piece of work. The minimalistic approach is starkly beautiful, and the lighting and contrast work together beautifully to create an emotionally evocative piece. Stunning.

Amazing photography .. and 15 views after 48 hrs im shocked I really am , you're truly amazing and could only dream of having such tallent .. P.s. im guilty of placing shit in the wrong section and knowone had bugged me yet, whoever it is, is just jealous of your talent,, Plus if it's taken with a camera , any form of camera weather it be digital SLR or auto and even perhaps non camera using a pinhole I think it should still be classed as Photography anyway .. People are just anol... Sorry I ramble about shit ..

for my part the "newcomer", throught my experience only, would be explained by the fact that i spend so much time commenting on my devwatch list that i barely look out for new others.. well of course i add often people to the list, but i tend in the end to stick to the same people. It's maybe a bit sad but I often lose myself when i try to find other things on DA. Finding only crap or poseurs annoy me, depresses me, and finding unknown artists also saddens me in a way... and i don't have the energy for everyone.. I already have troubles commetning teh usual ones i like to watch ...
isn't it sad ?

I think there are a lot of people out there with no or very little experience or understanding of traditional darkrooms and the capabilities they offer. It's a worry that some people are more interested in categories than the work that fits them. You have a distinctive style of your own but it's always photographic.

I'm doing the same experiment: I've uploaded some very good (for my standard) pictures under a new account to see what happens...
I belive the main probem is that there's no limit to the number of imeges that every deviant can upload per day...

dA is brutal to the core. Been here 2 years and have 333 page views. But anyways, great shot.

Truness, it's very hard to get a pic up there if you're not popular... I think it also depends on what time of the day you send it up, because people do sometimes look at the new stuff that just comes in, though one or two people may see it and actually click on it.
Anyway, forgot where I was going. Cool picture! Keep it up!

the only photo editor that would care you used a texture editor would be a photo editor for a news publication or a wire service like getty.. any fine art medium would find this photo acceptable..
although i may be wrong..
i wouldnt ever think of editing to the extent of using a brush or adding a texture layer.. but to each their own..

wow the picture crys emotion, i love it

also, i wouldnt call your photos photomanipulation either, i would consider them as perfecting a work of art. no photo ever comes out perfect and it will always need some postwork to give it the true vision that the photographer imagined. the person who keeps reporting your work obviously does not know what real photography is.
nice work

interesting experiment. some famous writers have done the same thing - sending a short story (that had already won awards) to various publishers under fake names, and having the stories rejected, sometimes rudely.
but, i have to admit i too rarely browse anymore - i already have so many friends' deviations to get through, and, when i DO browse, it just seems that there are no longer as many good ones as there were even a year ago to bother clicking on.
as you mentioned above, there are only 1 or 2 worth looking at out of a page of 120. i don't know if i've gotten pickier, or the generaly quality is worse.
