Description I know I said I'd take a break, and I will, but I have to see this experiment to its end. Uploaded this image under another deviantname. Its an awarded shot (staff choice on www.usefilm.com). After 48 hours, it has 15 views on DA. I suspected devART to be unwelcoming to newcomers, but I didnt know it was that bad! Thank God I'm popular

Rant: to the anal schmuck that keeps reporting my 'policy violation>wrong section' because I edit my photos, take a look at this before hitting that botton: [link] (violently manipulated image, uploaded to the photography section and selected as DD). It takes a hell of lot more effort/manipulation to create such an image, than what I've done here. The blurring of the water was caught in camera, I only applied a simple texture layer in photoshop, something that could easily be done traditionally by thrashing the negative/print.

I tottally agree with you... Some people here is quite new, and they don't know how the heck you get this kind of photos... And they act in wrong way. But there are other ones who analyse your work (like me ) to achieve the process that you did... I know you use textures in your works and that is possible in a traditional or digital scanning thingie... So I agree this is a photography... And what a photography!!!! :fav:
you are a camera poet man!!!!

It took me close to a year to get my watchers up to pretty much what they are now. I think it's that people just didn't see it, I never browse through everyone's submissions anymore, no time. But anyway it's a gorgeous shot and I'm not surprised it won an award. There's a contest here somewhere that wants photos depicting loneliness, this would be perfect. If you like I'll try to find it for you.

it's one thing to submit violation for like, innapropriate imagery, but yet, I'm sure that's fun to have someone do it for the wrong category
Anyways, great shot, I love the colors and tones, and the sort of perspective this has...
the overall shot has a nice creepy alone look to it that I like very much
Well done

And you really are right about newcomers. It seems to me that if you're not featured, you'll never get noticed.

hi and thanks! Yes, I used 2 filters. A neutral density filter named B&W ND110 (very dense filter, prolonging shuttertimes by 10 F-stops, makes the viewfinder completely black, manual focus is essential) and a sigma slimline pol filter (at 12mm, its not 'slim' enough, the rim is included in the corners )

great filteres, that one from B&W that lowers 10 F-Stops seems cool).
keep on the great job

yes that's the problem of deviantART, if you are new you don't have the chance to become popular.. or it is very hard :/

As a relative newcomer to DA, it does seem that you upload something you think is especially good only to see it sink without trace. From my experience, it seems that the photography 'community' is more likely to look at new stuff than the photo-manipulation 'community' is (tho' this may be because, in my opinion, the general (and I emphasise general) standard of photography work on here is higher than the photo-manipulation work.... The answer, I've found is far, is, as the help suggests, to comment as thoughtfully as possible on other people's work and they, in turn, will look at your work....

Anyway....

This is a lovely image. I only discovered your gallery late last week through browsing someone's favourites and I can say, quite honestly, that your work is some of the best I've seen inside or outside Deviant Art, particularly in terms of texture and colour....

Hi and thanks for the comment. Maybe the problem is the substandard work combined with the enormous amount of new images uploaded every hour. I've suggested many times that there should be a daily/weekly limit regarding uploads. All other internet art forums I know of, has such a limitation. If one has to chose between say 10 images, which one to upload, chances are that the best will be up'ed, thus raising the standards->encouraging random browsing for those hidden gems. When I first got here, I browsed alot, but its too tedious now. Often only 1 or 2 images are worth the click on a 120 thumb page.
Thanks alot for your kind and encouraging words reg. my work. I'm happy you like it!

I have to admit that I put off signing up because I wasn't sure that my work would be up to it before I realised that there was no minimum standard! I do try and think carefully before deciding to upload an image as I want my gallery to showcase some of the best of my work. I joined up to get opinions on my work and to be inspired to improve by stuff better than mine. Some seem to use their galleries as a place to share their snaps with their friends. That is, of course, their right but it does, from my (selfish) point of view, make it a lot more difficult to find the 'best' stuff that'll inspire me/improve my work. I agree that an upload limit would make a great deal of sense otherwise I can see the 'best' people moving on elsewhere....

It's no surprise to me. when an image stays on the "recently submitted images" page for a second or two the only way to see it is to have the author linked as a favourite or to see it spotted by someone.

Good photo, anyway
