Description
Oi, my first ever flashSo this is what I plan to have as an intro to my nonexisting website. When I made the images years ago, this is what I had in mind, but couldnt carry out (in .gif I think the file would go well beyond 5 mb's and my pc crashes if I as much as look at a .gif with more than 300 frames in it). Well, its late.. morning actually..
Have a good day
edit friday night: Well, I think I've finally figured out why I couldnt make proper smooth transitions. Appearantly .swf files needs at least 0,1 second framedelay in order to update layers correctly. So I've reuploaded the file, now 5 times larger I'm affraid (but it sure as hell looks better). Also tried to fix the speed of the text transitions, at least now it works fine for me
Thanks for all the really helpful comments and ofcourse the

What to say...well, it's kind of cool that I recognized what you were quoting, but anyway...this is a definite fav.
I adore the image transition and the placement of the text...
Where is the location of the images? if you don't mind me asking...
I hope to see more along this line...marvelous job!

This is a pretty amazing work, I can say that for a fact. First off, you taught me that it is possible to make a flash animation in ImageReady, and I thank you for that, because I cannot figure out the flash programs myself. When you say you created the images, did you use a source photo, or did you completely create them from scratch? If you used a source photo, where was it taken? I love the the dark feeling you convey in the part with the deep red clouds.
And another question, is this from the original 'Egyptian Book of the Dead' or from some other work with the name? Either way, do you know if it's available in print? I'm always adding to my collection, and from what you've shown here, it looks like excellent work.

The words went too fast for me.
Otherwise, beautiful images and words.
Maybe a little calming music would add to the affect.
I say that because I was listening to some piano while watching it. It was quite nice. <3

You'll need a damn "skip intro" button. there,s no way somebody's going to wait for it to go all the way through every time the page loads.
The file is 3.2mb, pretty long for 56k connections, another reason why you'd need a skipper.
It is also pretty long and has a lot of text... for good web ergonomics you should either make it shorter (taking the most important passages and having a link to a longer intro somewhere on your website) or use this design as your webpage's header.
I mean, it would be nice to have a kind of cropped version of it (so it's not too big, good headers shouldn't go past 250px high) and then the menus under it. In my opinion, it would give a great effect to have an always active header. Especially with your good transitions.
In overall, that's pretty good looking, has meaning, the transition is well made, but the ergonomics are the big problem.

Did you say 56k connections? Point taken, and thanks for the good pointers. I dont even have a website, you know. If I make one, I think I'll have a subpage with animations, for visitors with lots of time and strange tastebuds. Ive only just begun exploring animated stills, but the media sure has lots of potential for telling stories and projecting mood, compared to still stills

I thought you meant you were going to use it that way. Sorry if I ever sounded harsh.
And I must say it's a pretty powerful thing for a first experience.

this piece of work is fantastic - trully amazing, beautiful and the words are well thought-through.
however.
One word of advise: if you wish to make this the intro to your website, cut down the running time by atleast half. because people won't sit through such a lengthly introduction - they'll just not visit your website. if you notice, the flash intros to very commonly viewed websites are very short - even though the visitors would probably watch them anyways.
if you still want to use this in full-time, make it something like a trailer with a special link on the website.
because long intros just don't work.
(although cutting down the text would be difficult... very diffilcult. there is a fine mood balance, and it would take a while to keep the mood the same but cut down the time)

raun In reply to copie-cat [2006-04-21 22:40:27 +0000 UTC]
thanks. I guess you are right about intros. I wont cut it down though, its too fast already, as the words needs to be swallowed slowly, likewise with the images I would hope Maybe I'll make a hp subsection with several animations, for people looking to be entertained and told stories

thanks I'm surprised it got so popular, lets be honest it looked like shit (before the update atleast). Yeah, I made those pictures, long ago, but re-edited them for this animation. Looks alot better now I think.
I hope I'll get a website at some point. HTML and flash are nightmarish words to me, I dont understand anything about webdesign

You're welcome
-lol- Honesty's good; I never saw it before this, so I like it (It's always good to like your own art, too, otherwise it drives ya crazy, if you don't
.)
Awesome; re-edited, or not, I like 'em... Reminds me of changing seaons, and times, etc ... That's the point, though, isn't it? -lol-
I hope you get a webiste, too... And that you can learn all that you need for webdesign, and stuff! I can see why they're such nightmareish words! (*s at the words*) ...never really've used flash, though... Is it a pain, 'cuz I know a lot of ppl love to use it. ...
