Description Oi, my first ever flash Discovered by chance that imageready supports .SWF exporting
So this is what I plan to have as an intro to my nonexisting website. When I made the images years ago, this is what I had in mind, but couldnt carry out (in .gif I think the file would go well beyond 5 mb's and my pc crashes if I as much as look at a .gif with more than 300 frames in it). Well, its late.. morning actually..
Have a good day

edit friday night: Well, I think I've finally figured out why I couldnt make proper smooth transitions. Appearantly .swf files needs at least 0,1 second framedelay in order to update layers correctly. So I've reuploaded the file, now 5 times larger I'm affraid (but it sure as hell looks better). Also tried to fix the speed of the text transitions, at least now it works fine for me
Thanks for all the really helpful comments and ofcourse the 's too

very beautiful pictures! You've already heard many of the suggestions that i would post like making the text slower and making the pictures fad into each other. One other thing that i would have to say is that it seems a bit long for an intro. It's an awsome animation but i think for an intro to a site it might be too long. Overall: Amazing pictures and a very awsome first attempt at flash. The words go beautifully with the work. Keep up the awsome job! oh, and have a nice day

thank you! I've fixed the text speed and picture fading now, if you havent seen it I am a hopeless flash beginner and I couldnt figure out how to make the transitions last night when I made this. Well, problem solved.

if you have imageready CS2 its not harder to make .swf files than .gif files (just go to export> in the 'file' menu). Interactivity and soundtracks will probably be alot harder (i dont have a clue about it actually )

Contrary to a majority of the posts that jumped out at me, the words didn't appear to fast for me. The fadeout lasted long enough so that you could make out the last few words before it was gone. It got towards in the middle, I was waiting, waiting, waiting for the next line to come up. I was anticipating what would be said next. And the closing line was fantastic. It keeps you wondering...keeps you thinking...and it's a powerful point. Fantastic, breathtaking and very thought-provoking work.

This is amazing--very well done--especially the way the words are faded in and timed and placed in the image. Very effective, very thought provoking. I will have to learn how to do this!!! Did you write the prose?

I agree with DarkestJourney about how rigid the transition is between images. I would also suggest leaving a bit more time for the reader to grasp the meaning of the words: they move rather fast in the beginning.

Even so, I still love this piece and I really like the concepts behind it and the presentation of those concepts. Good work!

Very nice, I watched and read the whole thing =]

Might I suggest a dissolving transition for when you change the image of the tree? The way it is now seems a bit too jarring after watching the gentle fading of the text.

well, i'll watch all of it later, kind of busy right now.
great concept and i lvoe the words hich i've read thus far.

but two things disturb me: the change between the pictures is too sudden, there should be some sort of fade.
and the text moves jsut a tiny bit too fast, hard to keep track.

other than that, pretty awsome!

i hadn't seen any flash other than using vectors (or a least, in an illustrative fashion) and this is great. i love it. i think another deviant mentioned the sudden changes between images...maybe some sort of slow fade between the changes in the sky would make it flow better, or bringing in a sudden flash that links the two images, fading them both in and out of white, to get the effect that your eyes see when you have just been blinded by flash and your vision slowly returns....

hi and thanks I'm sorry about the text speed, but you can always set the flash to 'loop', then first enjoy the pictures, and secondly try and read the text over the next couple of loops

Great work! Watching it really captures the eye. However if I may be so bold there are three things id change. I have no experience with flash yet I have done a fair bit of video editing so id like to think I know a little bit about it. Tell me if I’m wrong.
1st off, the text fades out to fast. If it could pause for a full second it would be perfect. You can read it just fine, because you typed and worked with it, but others who are unfamiliar with it can't read it as fast as you.
2nd, the sudden frame changes in between the pictures doesn’t look so great beside the slow fade of the text. Have the pictures fade into each other at the same speed of the text, it will enhance the onerous, melancholy feel of the entire work I promise!
3rd, this is a more personal point but I watched it the second time with a choice musical piece in the background. 'Like Spinning Plates' by Radiohead from their album 'Amnesiac' enhanced the dark feeling of the work 100fold, plus it synched up very nicely, I know you cant put copyrighted music on Deviant but try it for yourself and see.
Non the less! Great work! If that’s your first you have a promising talent!
~Lukas,

Hi and thanks for the very helpful comment! I guess I have to agree the text is too fast or too unreadable. 2 things I can blame this on: My pc recently died, so I have only 8 fonts to chose from right now and secondly, this was my first flash. Its very hard to change the text transistions once you have already made a sequence. This flash is made up of 1500 frames, took me a good 10 hours and if I just want to slow the text down, I'll need to start over (until i figure out a way to paste on existing frames).
The sudden frame changes bother me too, believe me, I've tried everything to fade the pictures into eachother, but for some reason, the flash only shows the first 300 frames or so correctly, then the photos get so darkened its hard to see anything. I dont know whats causing this, but the problem goes away when I only fade the texts
I bet this would be tons better with a soundtrack. Again, this is a very first try, I dont yet have a clue how to import audio into .swf's When I figure it out, I'll be a happy man

Thanks again for taking the time to write up such a long and helpful comment!

It surprises me there arent more of this kind of stuff. I've been wanting to do it for years, but flash is just such an uninviting a program, its so hard to get started. Now when I've discovered how relatively easy it is to export .sfw's from imageready, I'll experiment more with animated stills. Thanks for having a look
