Description An Eldar Farseer with her helmet off, standing on a battlefield.

Very much based off the mini, seeing as she's standing on a rock like all the miniatures are. I used my Farseer mini as a reference, but decided to give her sleeves instead of armor, half because I'm lazy and half because I like drawing billowy cloth. I also would have given her a witchblade to go with that knife, but photoshop crashed and it would have taken so much time to get it back.

I am quite proud of the gemstones.

I wonder how one of those 'Taus' would look in your style now

Lovely quite, I say.

The Tau are actually a little tricky for me to draw... their heads are much more spherical and square-faced than the faces I'm used to drawing, and their anatomy is quite different from that of humans.

Thank you!

I might be able to pull off O'Shassera (Commander Shadowsun), because her face seems a bit closer to what I'm used to, but the armor... dear goodness the armor. Armor is the bane of my drawing existence.

And the greek letter used in sciences to symbolise wave length, usually used is physics and the oscilliscope is Lambda...sorry I'm writing my story at the moment and I am also reading 'the strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' so I am actually digressing like that ooh a bird

Eldar blood crystallizes instead of scabbing.

Oh, OK.

Cloudcuckooland comes from a Greek play where a couple of guys try to build a city in the sky called Cloudcuckooland... and it is weird. The Greeks thought of everything, man.

Yeah, Greece was a pretty interesting place.

So... what do you think of my most recent Eldar drawing? I was trying to get her into the Uncanny Valley (that place where something is almost human and just looks creepy because even though it looks human, it quite simply isn't), but I don't think I really got it...

ShadowdracWill In reply to Raven913 [2011-07-22 06:03:17 +0000 UTC]

Ehhh...It's good like all of your work, but I'm afraid it didn't quite make that field. It's human in appearance, but at the same time obviously not human. It's kind of creepy like how a motel is kind of like a hotel. If anything at all, it reminds me more of that Newman family couple portrait.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Raven913 In reply to ShadowdracWill [2011-07-22 06:14:05 +0000 UTC]

Ah, OK. Any suggestions on how I could get into the Uncanny Valley? Because Eldar in the rulebooks and Black Library seem to be described as some strange combination of the Uncanny Valley and The Fair Folk.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowdracWill In reply to Raven913 [2011-07-22 06:19:22 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, well I think the background needs to be worked on, something a bit more...well creepy. In addition, she just looks sad. Something of what you're looking for would be her, clothes ragged, blood seeping from the bottom of her eyes and the world aflames right behind her, all with that same expression of not fear, but just...deadness. That would be creepy and uncanny in my book.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Raven913 In reply to ShadowdracWill [2011-07-22 06:32:22 +0000 UTC]

She's not exactly meant to be a bloody creepy character... more like just subtly creepy on a weird level. Pretty, but in a way that is just non-human enough to be creepy. Eldar-like.

I'm probably going to darken the color scheme on her clothes.

ShadowdracWill In reply to Raven913 [2011-07-22 06:35:54 +0000 UTC]

Would probably be good.

Though just know that I wasn't really making a reference to your character, just saying that in the theme you've described, that would probably be the best way to achieve it.
