According to "The Force Awakens - Visual Dictionary" the six orange circles on BB-8's lower sphere are "swappable circular tool-bay disks." So with interchangeable disks, BB's many "Swiss army knife" features will be constantly changeable and upgradable as the story progresses. It sort of gets your imagination going as to what sorts of cool features they could build into him. I'm hoping they give him a repulsor-lift unit, so that he can hover or fly when he needs to. (Or little retro jets like R2.) A personal shield-emitter would come in handy too. Oh well, I can't seem to resist the urge to try to militarize astromechs. It's just that they always end up in tactical situations.

If I continue my "Knights of Mandalore" online comic book story, I'll have to have BB-8 make a cameo appearance in the story, or maybe I'll introduce a different BB-unit. BTW, that begs the question. So far we've only seen an orange and white BB-unit. What other color schemes do you think would be cool? How about a shiny black one, with blue stripes, or an olive drab model? Or silver and blue like R2!
