I just love the idea of an elite group of red Stormtroopers. When you see a red Stormtrooper, somehow you just know that they are going to be all the things that a regular Stormtrooper is, but better, more advanced, more capable, and more elite.

While Star Wars canon offers us the story of “Captain Cardinal,” I think that this idea should be bigger than just one person. The Sith Troopers started to explore this possibility, but we never really got to learn that much about them. Batuu’s “Red Fury Legion” really sounded fantastic, but there was nothing particularly “red” about them. Major Elrik Vonreg’s red TIE/ba also teased us with something more in this direction, but we never really got to see very much of it. Was he a one-of-a-kind ace, or was he part of a larger elite Scarlet Squadron?

In my own RPG, I have a group called the ICO, (the “Imperial Crimson Order.”) This is an elite post-First-Order remnant faction led by Commander Korr. In the wake of the Battle of Exegol, the ICO combines a number of surviving First Order forces, including the 709th Red Fury Legion, surviving Sith troopers, and Scarlet Squadron, and elite squadron of red TIE b/a fighters. The elite squad the Korr leads himself is known as Scarlet Squad.
