Description For what seemed to be a moment of silence, Scythe and I had stood, each with the others' glove buried in our faces. It was then that we realized it- more for the feeling of weariness and a little less for the passage of time. The last round had ended at the moment our crosses impacted....

A moment later, I felt my legs give out on me, I fell, but was able to fall on to my hands and knees, instead of my face. Scythe stumbled into the ropes, his bruise burning like a fire.

I took in deep breathes of air, feeling sweat run down my face, stinging my own bruises, and thought as I saw Scythe still standing (albeit on the ropes), that I... had failed...

What I heard next was unexpected- a sound like a dull tapping. Looking up I saw that Scythe was clapping, a big smile on his face.

After getting up, I asked what was up. He was happy that I did a great job in the fight. At first, I thought I hit him too hard in the head, but he said that he heard the bell, faintly just over the din of our last exchange. The truth was, that I stood to the very end, after a long and hard fight, and that he was proud of me for it.

Reflecting on all that happened, I felt myself begining to swell, not from the bruises, but with happiness- All the training I'd done before this match was worth it, that I was able to go toe-to-toe with Scythe, a veteran in spite of is age, and finish standing... even though I went down after the bell...

As I took off my headgear, Scythe mused over the match and made me an offer- while I made some progress, there was still much for me to learn. For Scythe, he had found someone who could give him some good sparring practice. He offered to help train me proper if I helped him to do the same as his sparring partner from here on out. It didn't take long for me to accept the offer.

Though I had a feeling that his idea of training would be more intense than what I was used to, I wasn't worried. In accepting to do this match, I didn't expect to do as well as I did. Pain aside, I had gained a friend, that was the real victory, and we both knew it...

After using the Cross Counter bit, it didn't take long for this to fall into place. To me, this felt like an appropriate way to end this match.

To think I started this, months ago, it's been a wild experience, being able to do all this- I never thought I'd break my artist's block in this way, and from it turned into something I will come to treasure: the work put into it, the results, the many people who have come to see this match, eager to see more, many I've become friends with. To think all that stemmed from an RP fight in May.. it's really humbling.

In that sense, I'd like to thank everyone who has viewed , faved and commented on these pages. You guys gave me the drive to go the distance.

At this stage, this sparring match is over, but it is not the end. Nope, it is only a beginning. While I won't be able to do the colored pages for some time, I do plan to do an epilogue for this, and I've a number of things lined up for afterwards.

Hope you guys enjoyed the fight, I know I did.

Scythe Mana belongs to me, and I belong to myself.

I know I haven't said anything about this yet, but awesome fight there! The match ended on a high note, with you and Scythe equally matched, and you making it all the way to the end. But we all know that this is far from over as it now opens to a new beginning. Great job!

I didn't know that bell rang until after I was on my knees. All things considered,I did better than I thought I would.

Be it in a spar or a match, there is few constants. One of them being 'you can't win 'em all', but this was one spar I have no regrets over.

Actually, that reminded me- just before this round started, I did a gag page before this- right after teh one I was showing my belts... Needless to say, Scythe wasn't too pleased with me showing off and forgetting the rest of the match: [link]

Moral of that sidebit: Always remember to keep your appointments- especially if the other person knows how to fight.

Thank you.

It took several months, lots of paper, who-knows how many NPB pencils, fine-tipped markers and scans to get all these done, but looking at how it all turned out, this was a labor of love. That is a rare feeling.

And to see that you've enjoyed them pleases me.

One day, I'll see about organizing these pages so that you can start at the beginning and then just click to the next page for convenience.
